How to Beat the Insane Difficulty in Dead Space

To beat the Insanity Difficulty in Dead Space, careful planning, preparation, and knowing your enemies are the key. You can unlock Insanity Difficulty by finishing the game once on any mode, but it's recommended that you finish it on Hard at least once to get a feel for what may be coming.

  • Planning your upgrades: This game mode will force you to make hard choices. Power nodes, which allow you to upgrade your equipment, will be few and far between. You will have to focus on one or two weapons to make them as powerful as possible. You will also have to focus primarily on upgrading your suit to survive. The Necromorphs will be able to kill Isaac in just a few hits on this difficulty level, even with a level 5 suit.
  • Focus on two weapons at most: A good combination is a Plasma Cutter and Line Gun. Ammo conservation is the main reason for not using more weapons, aside from the lack of upgrades. The game decides your ammo type drops by determining which weapons you use the most. Focusing just on one or two weapons will have you finding ammo only for those weapons. And the ammo will be significantly scarce on this difficulty. Plasma Cutter is a hitscan weapon that is extremely accurate and versatile.
  • Using Stasis is the key: Watch for Stasis refill stations on your first playthrough and remember where they are. Strategic usage of Stasis will give you an edge vital for survival in this difficulty.
  • Learn how Necromorphs function: You will encounter various Necromorphs while playing the Dead Space campaign. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. On Insanity Difficulty, they will have a similar health pool as they have on Hard, but their movement will be more erratic and unpredictable. The Slashers will pounce on you more frequently and side-step more when you aim at them. Learn to predict such movements to kill them quickly and conserve ammunition.
