Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Raid – Scission Encounter Guide

Second part of a pretty nightmarish raid!

Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion brings us a new Raid called Root of Nightmares, in which a six-man fireteam navigates through the Darkness Pyramid ship. To complete the raid successfully, the team must partake in four different Encounters. The second Encounter is called the Scission, and in this guide, I will explain how to finish it step by step.

How to finish Root of Nightmares Raid Scission Encounter in Destiny 2

Finishing the Scission Encounter in Root of Nightmares Raid in Destiny 2 will involve the same Field of Light buff you had in the previous Cataclysm Encounter, but with the addition of another called Flux of Darkness. This Encounter will look similar to the previous one, albeit with an additional spin. Instead of completing a single plate sequence four times, you will have two plate sequences simultaneously.

The goal remains the same: complete sequences before the timer runs out, with specific enemies hindering your progress. The most optimal way to do this is to split your team into two halves, with each having:

  • Runners: Every half should have one. They should be focusing on orbs.
  • Ad Killers: Each half should have two. It is their job to clear ads, protect the Runners, and ensure they do their job safely.

Each team half should cover Field of Light and Flux of Darkness in their separate areas in the arena. The progression remains the same as in the previous Encounter. Each team's Runner must first stand on a glowing plate with a white orb to get the buff by shooting it. A line out of the orb should point them to where they should go next.

The progression is mirrored this time across both teams, with Runners having to jump onto the plate with black orbs and shoot them with active buffs. This will consume the buffs, turning the orbs white. The light will extend the pathway to where they should go after returning to the glowing plates to regain the Flux of Darkness and Field of Light buffs. The buff-refilling plates will, like before, move two places behind their respective chains.

Another twist to this Encounter is the giant chasm that will split the arena, at which time each team's orb will be located on both sides, forcing everybody to make a cross multiple times. There are jumping platforms to help you, but be careful using them because they can throw you in unpredictable ways.

There is a single plate sequence for each floor, and each runner needs to finish the plate sequence before the wipe mechanic timer ends. In this Encounter, the timer can't be extended by any means, so time is of the essence. You must complete each plate sequence to reset the timer and buy yourselves more time. Once the Runners activate all the orbs, two of the Encounter's mini-bosses will appear. You can only damage them using a buff. Killing the mini-bosses completes a floor, and completing all three floors ends the Encounter successfully.
