How does Deepsight Activation & Crafting work in Destiny 2?

This crafting really deepened my sight!

Deepsight activation is a feature introduced in Season 21 of Destiny 2, allowing players to select specific weapons for crafting and unlocking particular memories. It piqued my interest immediately and made me wonder how it will impact the current weapons meta and what's needed to obtain it. This guide will give you all the knowledge of how weapon crafting works in Destiny 2 and Deepsight Activation.

How to unlock Deepsight and begin Weapon Crafting in Destiny 2

To unlock Deepsight and begin Weapon Crafting in Destiny 2, you must play through the first few missions of The Witch Queen campaign on Savathun's Throne World. This ability will become accessible through a new mod slot in the weapon details screen for weapons eligible for modding. It will also allow you to see and interact with hidden objects, including memories of weapons.

Once you unlock Deepsight, all the weapons with Resonant Red Borders will have their latent features awakened and become instantly available. Farming for these weapons is challenging because they have rare drop rates. You can spend 1,200 Silver for a Season of the Deep Season Pass, which will bring you Deepsight Harmonizer. It is an item that, when applied to certain weapons, transforms them into Red Borders, saving you time farming for them.

Performing Deepsight Activation and Shaping weapons in Destiny 2

When you hover over a Deepsight-eligible weapon in Destiny 2, a message will appear: "Deepsight activation is available for this weapon." Once you perform a Deepsight activation, you will extract its Pattern progress, which is necessary to Shape a weapon. You can perform weapon shaping at the Relic in The Enclave, accessible from the Throne World destination in the Director. Here are the steps you need to complete to Shape a weapon:

  • Pick a Frame Intrinsic
  • Pick a Barrel perk
  • Pick a Magazine perk
  • Pick two Traits
  • Optional: Pick Momentos

By going through weapon levels, you will unlock more components. Once you go through the steps above, press and hold the Shape button to finalize the weapon creation.

Resonant Materials and their Role in Shaping Weapons in Destiny 2

During your regular activities in Destiny 2, you will come across Resonant Elements and Materials, which you must have to Shape your weapons. There are four kinds:

  • Ascendant Alloys: you need these precious alloys to install traits to weapons. You can find them by doing the weekly Witch Queen campaign missions and Throne World Offensives.
  • Resonant Alloys: these alloys are used for inserting an Intrinsic Frame, and you can get them by completing activities and dismantling weapons.
  • Harmonic Alloys: you must obtain these Alloys to Shape Traits that are raid-exclusive on crafted raid weapons. You can only obtain them by dismantling Vow of the Disciple raid weapons.
  • Mementos: optional for Shaping, they grant you vanity options to add to your weapons and customize them to your liking.
