When your main pawn in Dragon's Dogma 2 gets hired by other players, you can gain new items, earn Rift Crystals, and XP for your main pawn. Knowing how to set the right quests goals and hiring the right pawns can make an impact on your playthrough.
Who pays the reward in Pawn Quests in Dragon's Dogma 2
Every time you go to sleep at an inn, the game acts as if your pawn traverses the rift into other universes (other player's worlds) and comes back with some experience, Rift Crystals, and farewell gifts from every player who hired them.
When you wake up, you get all the rewards and are offered an option to set a new goal for your pawn. These goals, called pawn quests, are for other players to complete when they have your main pawn in their party, in exchange for a reward that comes out of your pocket.
This reward you only pay once, however many players achieve the goal, and you only receive the boons and XP from one of them. So you don't have hesitate when setting a high reward in the fear that many players complete it and empty your pockets. In fact, giving decent rewards can be a good idea to get your pawn hired more often, get more Rift Crystals, and level up your pawn badges quicker.
How to get more Rift Crystals (RC) in Dragon's Dogma 2
Rift Crystals are a currency used only to hire pawns and buy cosmetic improvements for them. There are three main ways of obtaining RC:
- Find and rebuild Riftstones. Every stone you activate will reward you with a small sum of RC. It usually gives you 30 RC, but it can increase it the stone is important or was harder to find.
- Found in the world. If you are lucky, some enemies or chests may drop RC but it is not a consistent source.
- As a payment to your Main Pawn when it gets hired by other players. This is the most consistent source, and hence the importance of making an attractive character and placing good rewards for your Pawn Quest.
Pawn Quests and Pawn hiring tips in Dragon's Dogma 2
Many people overlook the pawn hiring mechanic for its simplicity, but it is worth taking a deeper look at. There's money to be made, items to be obtained, and RC and XP to be gained. Here are my tips for pawn questing:
- Some pawns offer great rewards for a very simple quest just as travelling with them for one day. Hire one that costs 0 RC and has this quest reward, spend the night on a bench, dismiss the pawn, rinse and repeat to fill your pockets with Wakestones.
- Offer a Wakestone as a reward for your Pawn Quest and your character will get hired much more often, which will advance their pawn badges.
- Be mindful of Dragonplague. While traveling in the rift, your pawns may contract a curse that, if you don't pay attention, can get out of control and end up with a whole town being assassinated. If you followed my first tip, you may already have a lot of Wakestones by the time all NPCs are killed, and perhaps you can revive them.
- Be kind to other players. This is a good idea when playing community games, since giving good rewards and good score is not only a nice gesture, but one that comes back. It also promotes a healthy community and a positive attitude overall. If, on the other hand, you are one of those players who sends back pawns with rotten food and dried flowers as payment, I hope next time your pawns eyes are turning red, you fail to notice.
