The free colosseums update has launched in Elden Ring. This update adds the three colosseums in the Lands Between as PvP arenas for players to test their skills. The colosseums will need to be opened to start matches in each one. There are multiple combat formats, or match types, to partake in. Here is each combat format explained in Elden Ring.

What is Duel combat format in Elden Ring?

The Duel format is unlocked at the Leyndell Colosseum. Duels are matches where combatants fight one on one. The standard match format is:

  • Players fight one on one for a limited time of 180 seconds.
  • Use of the Flask of Crimson Tears is prohibited.
  • Use of the Flask of Cerulean Tears is permitted but in limited number.
  • The use of spirit ashes is prohibited.

What is United Combat combat format in Elden Ring?

United Combat is unlocked at the Limgrave Colosseum. In United Combat, two teams of fighters clash. The team with the highest eliminations at the end of the match wins. The standard match format is:

  • Players are divided into two teams and given a limited time of 300 seconds to compete for the highest number of downed enemies.
    • Matches can contain either two, four, or six combatants.
  • Usage of the Flasks of Crimson and Cerulean Tears is permitted but limited in number.
  • The use of spirit ashes is prohibited.

What is Combat Ordeal combat format in Elden Ring?

Combat Ordeal is unlocked at the Limgrave Colosseum. In Combat Ordeal, fighters partake in a free for all match where every combatant is out for themselves. The fighter with the highest eliminations at the end of the match wins. The standard match format is:

  • Players have a limited time of 300 seconds to down their opponent/s as many times as possible.
    • Matches can contain either two, four, or six combatants.
  • Usage of the Flasks of Crimson and Cerulean Tears is permitted but limited in number.
  • The use of spirit ashes is prohibited.

What is Spirit Ashes Allowed combat format in Elden Ring?

Spirit ashes allowed format is unlocked at the Caelid Colosseum. Spirit ashes allowed matches will allow combatants to spirit summon once in the match. This format isn't a new format; however, it is a modifier that can be applied to either Duels, Combat Ordeal, or United Combat matches.
