How to crouch in Elden Ring

Sneaky moves!

In Elden Ring, players have to master several mechanics that will help them during combat, including crouching and stealth, as they enable you to take down opponents surreptitiously. This guide will explain how to crouch in Elden Ring and how to change the crouch button.

How do you crouch in Elden Ring?

To crouch or stand up from a crouching position, console players simply need to press on the left stick. The default crouch button for PC players is X. To hide from enemies, crouch and hide behind objects or in tall grass to reduce visibility. This sneaky mechanic can be useful while exploring new areas and during combat in Elden Ring

How to change Elden Ring crouch button

If you're finding that you're always accidentally crouching in Elden Ring while running away from demented bosses, then you can always change which button or key crouch is mapped to in your settings. This is a common feature across virtually all modern titles nowadays – and Elden Ring is no exception here.

To do so, simply go to System in your Menu settings. This will open up various in-game settings, at which point you need to navigate to the right until you reach the Controls menu. Here you will see either a gamepad or a mouse and keyboard depending on your controller input.

To remap or rebind your Crouch key, select the Button Settings menu in the Controls menu. This will open up a list of all commands in the game and show you which button or key they are mapped to. You will see Crouch/Stand Up in the first menu section titled Move. Simply scroll down to Crouch/Stand Up, select it, and then press the button or key you want the command reassigned to. Pretty simple stuff.

When should you crouch in Elden Ring?

While crouching has its perks, there are a few restrictions for this mechanic in Elden Ring. For instance, players cannot equip their shield while crouching. Equipping the shield automatically makes the character stand up, revealing the player's location.

Crouching near areas with tall grass will automatically make players less visible. Ideally, you want to look for areas full of tall grass, crouch-walk up to it, and blend in. Players can get away with sneaky executions if they manage to stay out of the opponent's line of sight.
