The Ash of War, right?

Many players are getting confused when they look up The Golden Vow. There are two types of Golden Vow in Elden Ring. One is a Spell, and the other is an Ash of War. This article will teach you how to locate both the Ash of War Golden Vow and even the incantation if you need it.

There are two ways of getting the Golden Vow Ash of War. There's the usual and more difficult way, and a much easier way. The usual way is to fight the Tree Sentinel Boss outside the Church of Elleh. It may seem demanding, but you can cheese your way to victory with this boss. If you manage to beat him, he'll drop the Golden Halberd with the Golden Vow weapon art. One con is that you cannot change the weapon art, so you're stuck with the Golden Vow for this weapon.

The easier way is to fight and defeat the Godrick Knight in Limgrave.  All you have to do is go to the northeast of the Warmaster's Shack or west of Deathtouch Catacombs (whichever you prefer) and look for a mounted knight with a huge shield on his back on top of a cliff. Once you've defeated the knight, you'll receive the Golden Vow.

What is the Golden Vow in Elden Ring?

The Golden Vow has one of the best buffs in the game. It buffs the strength and defense of your character and allies, and gives you sacred affinity. The two main differences are:

  • Faith requirement
  • Duration

If your build already has 25 faith, you can opt for the Incantation version, but if you don't want to spend the 25 faith, you can go for the Ash of War. The effects of the two are the same. You'll get a 15% damage buff and a 10% defense buff in PvE, while it's only 7.5% and 5% damage and defense buff in PvP, respectively.

As for the duration, Ash of War's buff has a shorter duration than the incantation. It only stays for up to 45 seconds versus the 90-second time of the Golden Vow spell.

Of course, if you're not looking for the Ash of War, know that finding the Golden Vow spell is a much easier task. It's inside a shack in Mt. Gelmir.  All you have to do is go to the Bridge of Iniquity in the northern part of Altus Plateau. Once there, you have to hop on your horse, go through a soldier camp, and move up the mountain. You're looking for the Corpse-Stench shack. The Corpse-Stench shack is a dilapidated shack with a big bonfire outside.

Once you see the shack, go inside and find a corpse with a shining gold indicator. Pillage that corpse, and you'll find the Golden Vow in your inventory and ready to use.
