Players gain access to Elden Ring's ridable mount, Torrent, early in the game. Elden Ring makes heavy use of the mount with its vast and cliff-filled open world. It is easy to become reliant on Torrent to get around, especially in unexplored areas. While the mount is extremely useful, it can take some time to get the hang of it.
Since players spend so much time riding Torrent, it is important that they know the ins and outs of riding the mount. Elden Ring is obviously a combat-heavy game, and players can often find themselves in combat situations while on Torrent's back. Players can switch weapons while on horseback by pressing handholding the Y Button (on Xbox), Triangle Button (on PlayStation), or E Key (on PC), and then pressing Left/Right Bumper (on Xbox), L1/R1 (on PlayStation), or Right Click (on PC), respectively. This allows players to switch the weapon that they are using quickly while in battle.
This is extremely useful for players who like to dual-wield weapons or players who have a magic-and-melee build. Having the ability to switch from a magical staff for ranged attacks to a melee weapon for close-up attacks can be invaluable in tough situations.

Players can summon their mount by using the Steed Whistle, which can be equipped to a quick action slot in the player's inventory. Torrent can be quickly dismounted by using the Steed Whistle again or by pressing the X Button (on Xbox), L3 (on PlayStation), or the L Key (on PC). If the player's mount faints, it can be revived by calling for the steed again, but doing this consumes one Flask of Crimson Tears.
