Escape Simulator – What is Legacy Mode

Different settings for different connections.

Escape Simulator is a puzzle game that allows a group of players to take part in an extensive escape room experience. Players must use a wide variety of options and interactable environments to find a way out. Before starting an escape room, however, players must choose what type of game they'd like to start, and one of the options players can select is Legacy Mode.

When choosing settings for a co-op game in Escape Simulator, players have two options: Co-op and Co-op (Legacy). Co-op (Legacy) is a connection type in Escape Simulator. Choosing the Legacy setting will not change in-game settings beyond the connection type.

Escape Simulator Co-op vs. Co-op (Legacy)

Both connection types in Escape Simulator use a peer-to-peer connection when setting up games. Still, there is one key difference: Non-Legacy games in Escape Simulator use Steam as a VPN, while Legacy games offer direct connections. The developers of Escape Simulator recommend switching to Co-op Legacy if problems arise when setting up a connection in standard Co-op games. Escape Simulator uses Steam Networking, allowing users to connect with friends from their Steam account regardless of connection type.
