Final Fantasy 16 Blacksmith Blues quest guide

Final Fantasy XVI offers many new features and quality gameplay, including the main campaign and numerous side quests to keep you busy for many hours. Some side quests are more interesting than others due to their rewards, and if you're like me, you're looking to help the blacksmith because it's the way of getting the most powerful sword in the game. This guide will walk you through the entire Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest and help you finish it.

Final Fantasy XVI Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest full walkthrough

Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest in FFXVI consists of four different quest parts that begin with August asking Clive to try to cheer up the ever-grumpy blacksmith Blackthorne. You will be able to progressively unlock the sequential parts by progressing the Main Quest storyline campaign.

FF16 Blacksmith's Blues Part I Guide

To begin the first part of the FF16 Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest, speak to August after completing the Here Be Monsters Main Quest mission. You can locate August in the Hideaway near the Counter.

  • When you start the mission, go and speak to Blackthorne, and you'll find out that he misplaced a particular leather pattern.
  • Your next stop is Charon, the shopkeeper in The Hideaway; she's got the information about the person with the missing pattern.
  • After learning that you're looking for Dozmare the Griffin, find Nektar in the Mess and use the Hunt Board to obtain your target's exact location.
  • Fast travel to the Lostwing Obelisk and ride down the southeast road to reach the Dozmare's location.
  • Defeat the Griffin after a cutscene.
  • When you beat Dozmare, another cutscene will play. Speak with the injured person after the fight.
  • Fast travel back to Hideout and speak to Blackthorne to conclude the first part of the quest.

FF16 Blacksmith's Blues Part II Guide

To start the second part of the FFXVI Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest, visit Clive's chambers and read the letter placed on the Reading Table.

  • Your first stop is Blackthorne; visit him at his usual place at the forge.
  • Find Charon next, behind her merchant stall. She will task you with finding Lord Ignac at The Dalimil Inn.
  • Use the Obelisk to fast travel to the town. The exact building you're looking for will be marked on the map as Final Sting. Go there and head upstairs, triggering the cutscene.
  • It appears as if Lord Ignac also has a problem with a misplaced property, this time in the form of luggage.
  • Travel to Bandit’s Bed, a north-most point in the Velkroy Desert.
  • Promptly displace the four thieves you find there from existence to trigger a cutscene.
  • Return to the lord Ignac and give him back his stolen property. He will thank you, giving you a whetstone.
  • Return to the Hideaway with the whetstone and speak to Blackthorne to complete the quest.

FF16 Blacksmith's Blues Part III Guide

To start the third part of the Final Fantasy 16 Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest, speak to August in the Mess, and he will tell you that our favorite blacksmith is under the weather yet again.

  • Speak to Blackthorne at this usual place by the forge to see what's wrong with him. He will task you with finding a particular ring.
  • Speak to Zoltan, located in Dravozd, Dhalmekia. Use fast travel to get to the town,
  • You can find Zoltan by following the stairs to the left. A cutscene will occur.
  • Retrace your steps and look for the gate. You will find Blackthorne there, go and speak with him.
  • You will be tasked with hunting down a Desert Salamander in the Fields of Corava.
  • Once you slay the beast and obtain its skin, return to Davozd and speak to Blackthorne again. Watch the cutscene.
  • Return to the Hideaway and speak to Blackthorne there again to successfully conclude part three of the quest.

FF16 Blacksmith's Blues Part IV Guide

To begin the final part of the Final Fantasy XVI Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest, Speak to August yet again. You will learn that Blackthorne's hometown you visited during the previous part of the quest is under an Akashic invasion.

  • This time, we will skip Blackthorne and go to Dravozd immediately. You will definitely have the town's Obelisk unlocked since you've been there before.
  • Rendezvous with August once you get there. Watch the cutscene.
  • Once you're ready for an assault, speak to August again to start the fight.
  • Defend the town against several waves of enemies. Following last will be a mini-boss fight with a Chimera. There will be a cutscene after the battle.
  • Speak with Zoltan after the fight.
  • Fast travel back to the Hideout and talk to Blackthorne to successfully conclude the quest.

Once you successfully complete the last part of the Blacksmith's Blues Side Quest, you will be awarded Ragnarok, a vital component to crafting Gotterdammerung, and the sword's Design Draft. You will also have to obtain the following resources:

  • x2 Darksteel
  • Primitive Battlehorn
  • x3 Orichalcum
