Everyone knows how much Xbox loves presenting RPGs in its showcases. However, Final Fantasy rarely receives any love. If you’re wondering whether Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI is coming to the console anyway, let’s speculate together.
Will FF16 be on Xbox?
Looking at Square Enix and Final Fantasy trends, especially when it comes to their ports, there’s a good chance that FF16 will be ported to Xbox… eventually. This is based on the fact that previous Final Fantasy titles (such as XIII and XV) are all on Xbox. Final Fantasy XV even had a “Windows Edition” exclusive for Microsoft. Square Enix has also done a LOT of big game ports to the Xbox, such as Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest.
The only reason I’m reluctant to give a definite “yes” is because Final Fantasy VII Remake/Intergrade isn’t on any of the Xbox consoles. Given how long it's been since the game's release, it might never see an Xbox port. According to reports, this is because Sony is allegedly preventing Square Enix from releasing their games on Xbox.
However, I’m very optimistic about Final Fantasy XVI. I have big respect for Xbox’s dedication to backward compatibility; It’s the only reason why Final Fantasy XIII, which was cross-released on the Xbox 360, is still playable today. If FF16 doesn’t release on the Xbox, it’ll be the first numbered Final Fantasy to have never done so, which would be a great loss for many home console players.
