FF14’s Viper and Pictomancer will get first dibs on this fan-requested feature

Ready to get the ultimate paintbrush?

Final Fantasy XIV's Dawntrail is fast approaching and a recent media tour by director Naoki
"Yoshi-P" Yoshida and his team revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming content. Among those details was some unexpected news about glamour gear accessibility for Viper and Pictomancer, specifically gear from previous expansions.

While job changes are something that's always consistent in FFXIV, one notable drawback with new jobs added to Final Fantasy XIV over the years has been the lack of unique weapon rewards from various types of battle content, specifically battle content from expansions predating those newer jobs. However, with the launch of Dawntrail and its subsequent patch content, that's set to finally change.

When pointedly asked if Viper and Pictomancer will be getting access to relic and trial weapon glamours from previous expansions, FFXIV director Yoshi-P confirmed that not only will they be getting those, but they actually will be first in line for them with Dawntrail. Meanwhile, other recent jobs, such as Gunbreaker, Dancer, Reaper, and Sage, will follow suit with much-needed endgame weapon glamours.

Not only that, according to prominent FFXIV player and streamer Mrhappy, who also interviewed with Yoshi-P, Viper and Pictomancer will also be getting first dibs on glamour weapons for all current Ultimate Raids. This means that Dawntrail's new jobs should be getting glamour weapons from Unending Coil of Bahamut all the way up to The Omega Protocol Ultimate Raids. Yoshi-P hasn't stated exactly when those will be available, whether it's at 7.0's launch or later on, but it is actively in the works.

As for why Viper and Pictomancer are taking priority over other existing jobs, as Mrhappy also speculates, from a development standpoint, it's likely because the team is hard-focused right now on assets for those specific jobs, so they have the time and opportunity to do so sooner rather than later. Nonetheless, the initiative is to expand it for all jobs lacking these weapons over the course of the expansion.

Many FFXIV players have waited years to get their hands on some of the game's best-looking weapons for the newer jobs they enjoy playing, and now that community plea is finally being addressed. The Dawntrail expansion launches worldwide on July 2, with Early Access on June 28 for those who pre-order.
