F.I.S.T Forged in Shadow Torch uses an automatic save system. It utilizes a checkpoint system, where it will automatically save your progress at certain points of the game, so you don't have to. There is no way to save the game manually.
You can force the game to save if you want to stop playing for the night by interacting with a Terminal, in which you can Repair, to restore your health, or Unlock Skills. With each interaction of this terminal, it will save the game. After every meaningful encounter, the game will also save, such as defeating a miniboss or a proper boss.

But no matter what the game is saved, you will always respawn upon loading your save. You will not be placed at the location the game was saved. If you die, you'll respawn at the last saved checkpoint. So even though all progress will be saved, all items found, map exploration, etc. If you have not found a new terminal upon quitting the game, you will load back at the last terminal you used.
