How to check Fortnite Server Status

With over 350 million registered players, it’s a marvel that Epic Games maintains the Fortnite servers with minimal hiccups. Online games always run the risk of crashing due to server issues or scheduled maintenance, but Epic Games is nothing but consistent. But it's best to understand how to check the Fortnite server status during those rare occasions when the Battle Bus temporarily stops flying.

There are three tried-and-true methods to check the Fortnite server status when the game isn’t running properly:

  1. The Epic Games Public Status website
  2. The FortniteServer Status Twitter page
  3. The Fortnite Downdetector website

Fortnite Server Status - Epic Games Public Status

The official Epic Games Public Status website will most likely be the one and only page you visit. Epic Games provides a detailed look at the Fortnite services. Not only does it let you know if the game itself is operational, but it breaks the game’s services down even further. Through the Epic Games Public Status website, you can check the status of individual Fortnite services, such as:

  • Website
  • Game Services
  • Login
  • Parties, Friends, and Messaging
  • Voice Chat
  • Matchmaking
  • Stats and Leaderboards
  • Item Shop

So in the event that one of these services goes offline, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire game will be offline. Server issues are situational, so there's no telling what or when one of these services will be offline unless a scheduled maintenance occurs.

Additionally, Epic Games provides over a month’s worth of informative past incidents.

Fortnite Server Status - Fortnite Status Twitter Page

The official FortniteStatus Twitter from Epic Games is great for hearing immediate Fortnite server status updates. Epic Games performs a great job of providing immediate updates, and even retweets posts from Xbox Support and other console support accounts.

For the most hardcore of Fortnite players, you can opt in to push notifications that will send directly to your phone. First follow the Twitter account, and then a Bell icon will appear. Click the Bell icon, which will allow you to receive notifications every time the FortniteStatus page tweets. It definitely comes in handy.

Fortnite Server Status - Downdetector

If for some reason the Epic Games Public Status website and the FortniteStatus Twitter account has failed to update, the Fortnite Downdetector website is another alternative. However, because the first two options provide so much detail, this really should serve as a last resort.

Downdetector is a reliable website because it gathers online outage data from real-time user reports. There are cases when you might login to Fortnite at or close to the server outage, which might not have allowed enough time for Epic Games to report through the official feeds. In that case, Downdetector allows you to determine if other players have reported an outage similar to yours.

It’s always important to understand how to check the Fortnite server status if you suspect something off with the game. That way you spend less time attempting to log in and more time gaming. With all that downtime, you can instead check out Fortnite’s rarest gliders and the rarest emotes.
