The Subdetection Unit is a Fontaine local specialty that can be found in the northern parts of the region. There's a limited number in the wild, so I recommend picking them up whenever you encounter them.

Subdetection Units are used as Ascension materials for Wriothesley and possibly other Fontainian characters in the future. They're artifices component created by the Fontaine Research Institute to monitor environmental data and visually looks like a mechanical bug. Here's how to get them in Genshin Impact.

Where to farm Subdetection Units in Genshin Impact

The Subdetection Unit looks like a mechanical bug that glows blue and red; its small size makes it difficult to spot. While it's visually similar to a Scarab, it doesn't move nor run away, so you won't have any trouble picking it up.

Most Subdetection Units are scattered across Fontaine's northern Liffey Region, and there aren't enough to fully Ascend a character in one day. If you run out of them in your World, I recommend entering a friend's World through Co-op mode and asking to farm theirs.
