The Paleontological Investigation in The Chasm is a World Quest that can be initiated after completing The Chasm Spelunkers. This quest involves taking photos of fossils in the Underground Mine—but locating them can prove to be a challenge.
The photos can be taken in any order, and you can start doing this quest before officially initiating it with Khedive in the base camp.
First Photo of a Strange Rock
The location of the first photo is circled in the image above. If you're having trouble locating it, start by going to the northern Teleport Waypoint in The Chasm: Main Mining Area. Then look northwest—you'll find an opening beyond the wooden bridge. Head there to find another wooden bridge with a glowing spot, which you need to interact with to take a photo.
Second Photo of a Strange Rock
The second photo is located in an obscure area in the Underground Waterway. First, head to the clearing with the Geo Monuments. You can get there by going to the southern Teleport Waypoint in The Chasm: Main Mining Area and following the path leftward. You'll find a strange anomaly on the wall, which you can dispel by activating the Lumenstone Adjuvant.
That will reveal an opening that leads underground. Jump down, but be wary of your surroundings as you shouldn't drop to the very bottom. Watch out for the glowing spot, which you need to interact with to take a photo. Additionally, there's a Luxurious Chest in the opposite direction of the glowing spot, so make sure to loot it, too.

Third, Fourth, Fifth Photo of a Strange Rock
The last three fossils are a lot easier to find, as their locations are straightforward. Simply head to the areas circled above to find the glowing spots and interact with them to take the photos. For the photo in The Glowing Narrows, you need to walk to its location from the Teleport Waypoint on the right, as there's no path from the left side.
How to Accept and Complete the Quest
Speak to Khedive at the base camp and choose the About the strange rock we found... You need to have at least one photo before this dialogue will show up. After you get the rest of the photos, speak with him again to turn them in and complete the World Quest. You'll get 30 Primogems for your effort.
