The world of GhostWire: Tokyo was expanded even further with the release of a visual novel. GhostWire: Tokyo Prelude is a short visual novel that provides more details about the events leading up to the game. Just how important is the Prelude, though, and do you need to play it before playing GhostWire: Tokyo?

No, you do not need to play GhostWire: Tokyo Prelude to play GhostWire: Tokyo. For those who really are into the story, the visual novel is a great place to get additional lore. It gives details about K.K. and his team and lets you see Tokyo before everyone goes missing.

It isn't meant to take away anything from the core game; it's more of a companion piece. That being said, you can run through the visual novel in about 30 to 40 minutes, making it a rather short read. It's a great introduction to the world and can help you decide whether the story will interest you or not.

The Prelude is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and will be coming to PC on Mar. 8.
