Driving is an essential skill in any Grand Theft Auto game, but it has a special meaning in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Definitive Edition. Driving is the easiest way to improve this skill.
After every five minutes of driving, CJ should receive a small incremental improvement in driving skill. The player does not need to have high driving skills to play the game; 20 percent should be enough. Regular races and street races need high-level driving skills.

The process of improving driving skills takes time. Hand down, the best way to increase driving skill is to attend driving school. Afterward, there are these tried and true methods:
- At the beginning of the game, the fastest method is to steal a fast car from the richer neighborhoods up north and drive all over the city.
- You could try to race CJ around the unlocked island as fast as possible for easy improvement.
- The 8-track is one service that helps. To unlock the Hotring, players must complete the 8-track. This is a race track that increases driving skill.
- You can also improve your driving skills in street races.
- You can also break into the airport and race around the runway in circles.
- You can park at the gate and jump the fence next to the gatehouse to get through the airport. Then you can drive into the airport from the gate.
