In Grand Theft Auto, failing a mission or not doing what you wanted to do the first time can happen. Typically, restarting a mission is pretty simple in most games. There will usually be an option in the pause menu to restart a specific mission. But for the new GTA 3 - The Definitive Editon, restarting is a bit more rudimentary.
Failing a Mission
If you happen to fail the current mission you are on, no worries. The game automatically starts you back again at the mission start, very quickly too.
Also, short mission cutscenes are skippable, making it that much faster to get back into the mission.

Replaying a Mission
If you want to replay a mission that you have already completed, you will have to manually save the game at the start of a mission. This is done by opening the pause menu, going to the Game tab, and creating a new save. Then, if you want to replay it, you just reload your save.
Important note: The game will autosave whenever you finish the main mission. So it's important to save the game yourself if you wish to play it again. This is the only to restart a mission without failing it.
