Sea of Thieves | The Legendary Storyteller Tall Tale | Chest and Keys Stories Guide

The Legendary Storyteller is one of the most popular Tall Tales in Sea of Thieves because of its heartwarming story about childhood dreams and inspiration. We follow along with Tasha, who revives her memories of her as a young girl tagging along with Briggsy, the villain of the previous Tall Tale, The Cursed Rogue. Tasha drew images in a book of stories that represent the things she saw.

The adventure begins with the quest book, which we'll cover how to obtain below. Before we do that, we'd like to provide you the links to the other two parts of the guide. If you have already found both the Keys and the Chest, you may skip ahead to locate the Ancient Crest. If you have already started this Tall Tale and need help figuring out where to go, go ahead and skip to Step Two. Otherwise, read below to see an overview of how to start this lovely adventure!

Step One: Starting The Legendary Storyteller

Since it's not too straightforward to see how to start the adventure, we'll guide you to where you need to go. As the main character of this Tall Tale, Tasha is the first person you'll need to see to begin. She is the Barkeep at the Tavern stationed on Ancient Spire Outpost on the map's eastern half. When you approach her, you'll see a book on the right side of the bar's counter. Interact with that book to vote to start the Tall Tale.

When the book is added to your inventory, you'll see that it includes three random stories from a selection of 11. That's right. Like the previous Tall Tales before it, The Legendary Storyteller has no set path of events and creates a new adventure for you every time you follow it.

The plus side is that most of these adventures start you off of Ancient Spire Outpost, so you're likely already at one of the starting points. However, a warning: Here be the Spoilers, Matey.

We assume that since you're reading this guide, you are struggling with the stories presented in the book and just want to know where it's supposed to lead. This is understandable since a child technically wrote these stories, and as such, they can be hard to interpret. Having said all that, we will leave it to you to figure out how to read the maps if that is what you'd like to do. If you want to skip the map reading and instead know the exact island and the treasures' locations, continue reading below.

Step Two: Stories' Islands and Treasures' Locations

Baddies Attack

You will be headed to Old Salts Atoll for this Key or Chest. It leaves a strong hint in the book that it is under the bow of the ship located on the western edge of the island. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Birthday Party

You will be headed to Wanderer's Refuge for this Key or Chest. On the southern half of the island is a group of trees near a well. Dig in the center on the patch of sand. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Fish Friends

You will be headed to Mermaid's Hideaway for this Key or Chest. This is the most difficult one to obtain. Approach the island from the Northwest and park so its side faces the large rock formation. You must shoot yourself onto this rock from your cannon. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Monster Hunting

You will be headed to The Crooked Masts for this Key or Chest. Off the Southeast side of the island is a large rock formation. Next to it is the bowsprit of the ship where the treasure is located. Swim down to the central part of the boat and look for the tell-tale glint of treasure inside it.

Monster Island

You will be headed to Thieves' Haven for this Key or Chest. On the top level of the island on the Southwest corner, you will find three stone heads sticking out of the ground. Dig right in front of the heads for this treasure.

Naughty Man!

You will be headed to Scurvy Isley for this Key or Chest. On the East side of the island is a large rock. You must dig in the sand that is just steps North of the grass at the base of the rock. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Rescue Mission

You will be headed to Crook's Hollow for this Key or Chest. The easiest way to get to this treasure is by following the instructions on the map, starting at the second level. When you walk through the cave, you will come to two bridges on the Southern edge, about halfway to the island's top. Go across those bridges and dig.

Scary Friends

You will be headed to Kraken's Fall for this Key or Chest. On the northern beach, you will find the skeletal remains of a Kraken. Resting inside of its spine near the sand is the treasure you're looking to find.

Smallest Boat

You will be headed to Lone cove for this Key or Chest. On the Northwest corner of the island, you will find a cave in the rocks, facing the sea. Go into that cave and stick to the right, and you'll find a small boat next to some glowing mushrooms. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Treasure Adventure

You will be headed to K9 Island for this Key or Chest. Right in the middle of the two main sections of land is a canal. Dive into this canal, and at the bottom, you'll find the treasure inside of a shipwreck. Follow the arrows above to see where to dive and look.

Windy Wings

You will be headed to Plunder Valley for this Key or Chest. On top of the island on the western side, you will see a large stone bird. If you follow the direction it is facing, you will see a pile of bones in the grass a short distance away. Follow the arrow above to see where to dig.

Step Three: Open the Chest

When you follow all three stories' paths, you will find one of the three items necessary to move on: the Chalice Key, the Crown Key, or Briggsy's Chest. After collecting all of them, bring the two keys to the Chest to open it.

Inside you will find some additional pages and a plank with holes carved into it. This is your next clue for treasure! Let's move on to the next part of the guide to figure out what to do with the Plank!
