If you're looking to build your relationship with a character in Harvest Moon, you'll need to give them plenty of gifts. Gifts can be almost any item you collect in your inventory, and depending on what it is, players will like or love to receive them. Here's how to turn an item into a gift:

First, make sure you have the item you want to give in your inventory already. Then, open up your inventory (the button will differ depending on what platform you are playing on). In your inventory, select the item you want to give and press the Hold option. Your character will now be displayed carrying the item in their hands.

To gift the item to a character, approach them with the item in hand and press the Give button that pops up on your screen. The character will gladly accept your gift with a brief message, and it will display the little musical note icons to signify they earned some friendship with you.

Unfortunately, you can only give one gift per day, meaning if you're looking to give a character several gifts, you're going to need to sleep and then return to them to gift them consecutive items. If you try to gift a character a second item on the same day, they will kindly refuse it, and it will return to your inventory.
