Missing One Conjuration in Hogwarts Legacy (bug fix) – Stuck at 139/140 Bug

Nothing is worse than being one item short of completing a collection. In Hogwarts Legacy, some players are encountering a problem where they are one Conjuration Collection Chest short, 139 out of 140, and no matter where they search, they can not find it. It seems as if the problem may be related to an early game quest. Here is what we know.

Is the Follow the Butterflies Quest bugged in Hogwarts Legacy?

At the time of writing it appears that it is. The issue seems to stem from players starting the Follow the Butterflies quest by talking to Clementine Willardsey in the Three Broomsticks, then wandering around before completing the quest.

If the player does a bit of exploring, rather than going directly to the quest objective in the Forbidden Forest, there is a chance they will encounter other butterfly locations on the map. Following a group of butterflies that the player was not intended to go to first and unlocking the chest will result in the objective being met for the quest, anyway. If you go to Clementine and complete the quest without interacting with the butterflies in the Forbidden Forest, as intended, they will disappear, along with the Conjuration Collection Chest that they lead to.

Currently, the only known way to fix this is to reload a save file that has not completed the Follow the Butterflies quest. The save file can be anywhere in progress with the quest, as long as you haven't turned it in, even if you found another group of butterflies, first. Go to the entrance of the Forbidden Forest to find the disappearing butterflies nearby and collect their chest before you turn in the quest.

Unfortunately, this quest can be taken on and completed fairly early in the game. If you are at the end game searching for a solution, you may not want to reload that early into the game. Avalanche Software is currently investigating the bug as per their bug reporting site, and will hopefully have a solution soon.
