Best Teams for Aetherium Wars in Honkai Star Rail – Aether Spirits, Expansion Chips, & more!

Can you believe it's on-par with Simulated Universe's difficulty? Crazy...

I didn’t know what to make of Aetherium Wars when it was first introduced. I thought it was going to be some card game like Genshin Impact’s Genius Invokation. Fortunately (or unfortunately for some), we have Aetherium Wars—an event that features battling using mobs you’ve defeated throughout your journey in Honkai: Star Rail so far. Here are the best Aetherium Wars team comps you can use to struggle your way into the Championships.

Best Aether Spirits to use in Aetherium Wars - Honkai Star Rail

For Aetherium Wars teams that I’ll be listing, these are the most indispensable:

  • Vagrant: Like Bronya, its skill Advance Forwards 100% one unit during its turn. Its Ultimate can also boost the entire team's DMG output.
  • Silvermane Cannoneer: Does a Follow-up Attack when the ally it supports with its skill attacks; its Ultimate also regenerates energy for a selected unit.
  • Trotter: Your indispensable healer.

If you haven’t reached the point where you’ve recruited all of the Aether Spirits above, I’ll provide placeholders until you do! There’s a Humanoid spirit called Vagrant, for example, which you can only get in the fourth area. However, it's an indispensable member in all my teams.

Best team comps to use in HSR Aetherium Wars

Aetherium Wars is actually pretty tough—and this is coming from someone who thoroughly enjoys the difficulty of Honkai: Star Rail (thank you, Swarm Disaster). I’ve experimented with a lot of ridiculous builds to defeat equally ridiculous teams, so I’ll share my best ones with you!

By the way, to get certain Expansion Chips, be sure you’re defeating the Challengers in all areas plus the Hyperlink Matches to get them.

Best Aberrant Team

My Aberrant team is actually my favorite. I call it the “Blaze Out Of Space nuke.” The goal is to beef up Blaze Out Of Space with specific Expansion Chips and bump it up the turn order with Vagrant. Silvermane Cannoneer is there to provide follow-up attacks whenever Blaze Out Of Space attacks the enemy.

Aether Spirits:

  • Vagrant (can be swapped with another healer unit or any Aberrant unit until you get it)
  • Silvermane Cannoneer
  • Blaze Out Of Space (Overlord)
  • Trotter

The key to making sure this team succeeds is the following Expansion Chips on Blaze Out Of Space:

  • Threshold Disruption: When attacking enemies with HP above 80%, increases DMG dealt by 70%
  • High Load-Low Speed: Increases ATK by 90% and reduces Speed by 30%
  • Energy Recycling (Optional but recommended): When the unit’s ultimate defeats an enemy, regenerates energy to the max.

With High Load-Low Speed and Threshold Disruption, your Blaze Out Of Space should be able to nuke non-Overlord enemies with its Ultimate. If they don’t die in one hit, it’ll take one Ult and one skill. Use Cannoneer and Vagrant to provide it with more opportunities to attack.

Best Humanoid Team

My Humanoid team is probably the most straightforward to build and the easiest to work with. It involves getting your Silvermane Lieutenant to carry all the damage dealing for you, with Silvermane Cannoneer as your sub-DPS. As long as shields are up and healers are about, you should have a drawn-out battle you can win.

Aether Spirits:

  • Vagrant, Silvermane Soldier, or Obedient Dracolion
  • Silvermane Cannoneer
  • Silvermane Lieutenant (Overlord)
  • Trotter

The key to making sure this team succeeds is the following Expansion Chips on Silvermane Lieutenant:

  • Backstage Enhancement: When it’s not his turn, increase ATK by 50%
  • General Upgrade: Increases ATK by 20% and HP by 20%
  • Cleansing (Optional but highly recommended): Dispels one buff on the enemy it attacks and increases the ATK’s DMG by 75% when it does

If you’re up against a unit that’s buffed, with Cleansing, just throw this team at it and watch their formation break. Aside from Mechanical enemy teams, this one is good against Humanoid teams as well! Its strategy is attrition, after all.

Best Mechanical Team

I completely cackled when I made this team (and you’ll see why in a bit). It’s probably my most unconventional one—though I can guarantee its usability. It involves getting your Aurumaton Gatekeeper to summon a dozen Dragonfishes with its Ultimate and kill the enemy with stacks of DoT.

Aether Spirits:

  • Vagrant (recommended), Silvermane Cannoneer, or Illumination Dragonfish
  • Obedient Dracolion with Shield System and Firewall Chips (I’ll talk more about those in a bit)
  • Aurumaton Gatekeeper (Overlord)
  • Wooden Lupus

The Expansion Chips you need on Aurumation Gatekeeper are chips you can get from Challengers in the last two zones or mid-Hyperlink Matches. They’re rare, valuable, and non-negotiable if you want this comp to work. You’re looking for:

  • Efficiency Optimization: Reduces the energy needed to proc its Ultimate from three to two
  • Attack Interception: At the end of the Aurumaton’s turn, they gain a barrier that nullifies non-DoT damage
  • Functional Overdraft: After attacking an enemy, consumes 25% of Max HP to Advance Forward by 40%. Stops consuming HP at 1. By the way, any dragonfish that it summons is considered a “turn” for him. Ergo, every time a summoned dragonfish attacks, Aurumaton Gatekeeper will Advance Forward 40%. Imagine if you had four or even six!

Next, let’s talk about Shield System and Firewall on the Dracolion.

  • Shield System: Greatly increases the chance of being attacked. Obtains a shield and increases Max HP by 500.
  • Firewall: Greatly increases the chance of being attacked and increases Max HP by 40%.

Are you seeing the picture now? Unless RNG mucks you up, it should only be Obedient Dracolion that gets attacked. It’s a spirit that can resist a fatal attack “one” time. However, Obedient Dracolion's Ultimate reset that Talent counters. Essentially, it’s a wall that never dies. If RNG mucks you up, Aurumaton Gatekeeper has Attack Interception—a chip that will let it survive one attack.

The turn order should 100% look like this:

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides
  1. Aurumaton Gatekeeper, at 1 HP, will always Advance Forward when one of its dragonfishes attacks. If you can get to a point where it has six summoned, Gatekeeper will just get infinite turns. If you have Cannonneer, you can provide energy with its Ultimate.
  2. When Aurumaton Gatekeeper enters “Sanction Mode” (after its Ultimate), it will imprison the next enemy that takes its Basic Attack. Use it to prevent the enemy’s Overlord from taking a turn!
  3. The dragonfishes will always use its AoE skill to inflict stacks of random DoTs on the enemy.
  4. Obedient Dracolion will tank all attacks. Its skill can restore the HP of an ally in a pinch—including Gatekeeper if ever its barrier is down.
  5. If you have Vagrant, you can call Gatekeeper or Dracolion up, depending on your needs.
  6. Wooden Lupus’ skill will deal more damage the more DoT an enemy has.

It’s a bit elaborate, but it works. I haven’t built a Mechanical team I liked more than this. It’s fun!

All three of these teams allowed me to clear all challenges in Aetherium Wars at the current max Equilibrium level/difficulty. Hopefully, they’ll be a big help on your Championship journey as well.
