Honkai Star Rail Crimson Calyx Guides, All Locations, Team Comps, and more!

That...does not look natural.

Crimson Calyxes are unique dungeons that can be found all over maps in Honkai: Star Rail. They drop materials used to level up character Traces, which are essential for strengthening your units.

Below, we've compiled all Crimson Calyx challenges in HSR and provided free-to-play team templates you can use. Remember that friend support units are available for these challenges, so don't be shy and use them!

All Crimson Calyx Challenges in Honkai Star Rail

There are 10 Crimson Calyxes you can take on to farm materials for every character. They are unlocked after completing your First Equilibrium Trial, shortly after exploring the Robot Settlement on Jarilo-VI. As you raise your Equilibrium Level higher, you can fight in more difficult matches for increased rewards. Fighting at higher levels will grant you more Path Ascension Materials for the Trailblaze Power that you spend, so it is always best to fight at the highest level that you can. It costs at least 10 Trailblaze Power to claim rewards, and you can do up to six waves per round.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Destruction (Storage Zone) Guide

The Bud of Destruction Calyx can be found in the Storage Zone of Herta Space Station, near a multi-level-bridge puzzle. You won't need to solve the puzzle to reach the Calyx, thankfully. You can farm Shattered Blades, Lifeless Blades, and Worldbreaker Blades here. To win the fight, you'll need to defeat Voidranger: Eliminators, Voidranger: Distorters, and Baryons.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Destruction (Storage Zone) Team Comp

The game suggests using Ice, Wind, and Fire characters for this fight. Here's an example team you could build using only four-star characters:

  • March 7th, Asta, Dan Heng, Herta

If you happen to have some five-star characters such as Gepard or Himeko, you could easily swap them in for March 7th and Herta, respectively.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Destruction (Scalegorge Waterscape) Guide

The second Crimson Calyx: Bud of Destruction is located in Scalegorge Waterscape, which unlocks while completing Trailblaze Missions in The Xianzhou Luofu. This particular dungeon drops the Borisin Teeth, Lupitoxin Sawteeth, and Moon Madness Fang, which are used to level up Traces for some Destruction characters.

The enemy lineup includes the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Ballistarius (Physical, Ice, Wind), Abundance Sprite: Wooden Lupus (Fire, Wind, Imaginary), and Abundance Sprite: Golden Hound (Ice, Lightning, Quantum).

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Destruction (Scalegorge Waterscape) Team Comp

With only two out of three enemies sharing common Elements at all times, I recommend bringing either a main DPS and sub-DPS or a strong friend support (if your team isn't strong enough). A team comp option would be:

  • Natasha, Herta, Dan Heng, any Ice or Wind friend support (Jingliu, Blade, Kafka)

Feel free to swap out any of the DPS units for a support or shielder if needed.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Preservation Guide

The Bud of Preservation Calyx is in another multi tiered room inside the Supply Zone of Herta Space Station. You can farm Endurance of Bronze, Oath of Steel, and Safeguard of Amber here. You'll be up against Voidranger: Reavers, Voidranger: Eliminators, and Antibaryons.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Preservation Team Comps

It is suggested to use Physical, Quantum, or Lightning characters in this fight. As Quantum characters are harder to come by, we went with this dual Physical and Lightning four-star character team:

  • Natasha, Physical Trailblazer, Serval, Tingyun

If you receive either Bailu, Seele, or Clara from the Gacha, you can swap them into this team. Bailu would replace Natasha, and Seele or Clara would both replace the Physical Trailblazer.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of The Hunt Guide

The Bud of The Hunt Crimson Calyx can be found in the Outlying Snow Plains of Jarilo-VI. You can obtain Arrow of the Beast Hunter, Arrow of the Demon Slayer, and Arrow of the Starchaser at this location. You'll be fighting Silvermane Soldiers and Gunners to claim your prize.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of The Hunt Team Comps

The game gives you a wide range of types to use for this fight. We used this team, which only uses free four-star characters:

  • Natasha, March 7th, Dan Heng, Herta

Clara, Gepard, or Bronya could easily fit into this team. Clara would replace Herta, while Gepard or Bronya would Replace March 7th.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Abundance Guide

The Bud of Abundance Crimson Calyx can be found inside Backwater Pass on Jarilo-VI. You can farm the following materials here: Seed of Abundance, Sprout of Life, and Flower of Eternity. You'll be matched against Everwinter Shadewalkers, Flamespawns, and Frostspawns.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Abundance Team Comps

It is recommended to use Physical, Fire, and Quantum Characters in this challenge. Fire characters won't handle Flamespawns very well, so we diversified our four-star character team for this match:

  • Natasha, Physical Trailblazer, Asta, Qingque

Clara, Himeko, or Seele can all be added to this line-up in the place of either the Trailblazer or Qingque.

The Bud of Erudition Calyx can be found at the entrance to Rivet Town on Jarilo-VI. You can collect Key of Inspiration, Key of Knowledge, and Key of Wisdom here. You'll be challenged by three types of enemies: Imaginary Weavers, Everwinter Shadewalkers, and Frostspawns.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Erudition Team Comps

You can use a basic dual Physical and Fire character team for this fight. Here is our four-star character team of choice:

  • Natasha, Physical Trailblazer, Asta, Hook

Here again, Clara and Himeko will both be useful. You can use them to replace either the Trailblazer or Hook.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Harmony (Robot Settlement) Guide

You'll find the Bud of Harmony Calyx automatically on the lower level of the Robot Settlement on Jarilo-VI after completing the first Equilibrium Challenge. You can gain the following materials fighting here: Harmonic Tune, Ancestral Hymn, and Stellaris Symphony. To claim them, you'll need to defeat Automation Beetles, Vagrants, and Automaton Spiders.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Harmony (Robot Settlement) Team Comps

The game recommends Imaginary Characters for this fight, but the only one is Welt, who is a Standard Banner Five-Star Character. Instead, we went with Lightning and Wind DPS characters for this fight, with March 7th in for survivability. Here's our four-star character line-up:

  • March 7th, Serval, Dan Heng, Tingyun

If you have Welt, feel free to use him to replace Tingyun. You could also swap Bronya into this slot of the team. Finally, if you happen to have Bailu, you won't need to use March 7th and could use the pint-sized pharmacist instead.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Harmony (The Reverie - Dreamscape) Guide

The second Crimson Calyx: Bud of Harmony is located in The Reverie (Dreamscape) F3, which can be accessed after completing Penacony Trailblaze Missions. It drops the Firmament Note, Celestial Section, and Heavenly Melody, which are used as Trace level-up materials for some Harmony characters.

The enemy lineup includes the Dreamjolt Troupe's Mr. Domescreen (Ice, Lightning, Imaginary) and Dreamjolt Troupe's Bubble Hound (Physical, Lightning, Wind).

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Harmony (The Reverie - Dreamscape) Team Comps

As there are a lot of enemies in this battle, I strongly recommend bringing an AoE DPS unit, with a Lightning DPS as it is universal across all enemies. Here's a free-to-play team template you can follow:

  • Natasha, March 7th, Pela, Serval

Don't be afraid to replace characters with better ones if you have them. You can also pick a friend support to help out.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Nihility (Great Mine) Guide

This last Crimson Calyx, the Bud of Nihility, can be found near the entrance to the Great Mine in the Underworld of Jarilo-VI. You can gather Obsidian of Dread, Obsidian of Desolation, and Obsidian of Obsession here. To do so, you'll need to fight robotic enemies: Automaton Beetles, Spiders, and Hounds.

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Nihility (Great Mine) Team Comps

Lightning-type characters will excel here. We chose to use three four-star Lightning characters in our team, along with Natasha for survivability:

  • Natasha, Arlan, Serval, Tingyun

Bailu can be used in the place of Natasha if you have her for a full line-up of Lightning Characters. If you don't have Arlan or Tingyun, you can always sub in Dan Heng to quickly put the enemies at the tip of his spear.

Honkai Star Rail—Crimson Calyx, Bud of Nihility (Alchemy Commission) Guide

The second Crimson Calyx: Bud of Nihility can be found in the Alchemy Commission F2, in the exact area marked above. In this dungeon, you can farm for the Fiery Spirit, Starfice Essence, and Heaven Incinerator, which can be used to level up Traces for some Nihility characters.

The enemy lineup includes the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Internal Alchemist (Physical, Imaginary) and the Mara-Sticken Warden (Ice, Lightning, Quantum).

Crimson Calyx, Bud of Nihility (Alchemy Commission) Team Comps

I strongly recommend bringing an AoE DMG dealer to quickly sweep through the waves of enemies, especially if you'll be farming multiple rounds simultaneously. Use the free-to-play team template below to guide you, but remember that you can easily pick a strong friend support to solo the battle.

  • Natasha, March 7th, Pela, Serval

Any of the above characters can be replaced by others who fill similar roles.
