When it comes to pulling for new characters, there's a level of uncertainty that comes with the process, and Blade from Honkai: Star Rail is no exception. Is Blade F2P (free to play) friendly? Is he worth the steep cost to add to your growing roster? Is he a 'must-have' in the scope of Honkai Star Rail? As one who has gained much of Honkai Star Rail's roster, allow me to give you some piece of mind. Here's whether or not you should grab Blade.
Is Blade worth pulling for in Honkai Star Rail
The answer depends on the progression of your account. Blade is a 5* Wind Destruction character with a focus on HP. He deals massive damage but must drain his own health to do so. Due to his focus on HP, he should always be built to have a large health pool. In my opinion, Blade is a safe and healthy pull for most accounts, especially ones looking for a carry.
My reasoning is multifold. First, he is a Destruction character, able to both play Tank and DPS in the same role. A properly built Blade will have plenty of bulk if you need to use him to tank a strong enemy. To me, this is already invaluable, as the most difficult content in the game has a meta focus on the Speed stat right now. However, if Blade can soak most of the first turns of said content, then he will prove himself quite useful.
Beyond tankiness, Blade's DPS is also on the higher side of the spectrum. While he won't be outdoing DPS monsters like Seele, he should deal more than enough to lay waste to all of the current content Honkai Star Rail has to offer. Additionally, his largest pro is that he is very skill-point friendly due to his empowered attacks not requiring skill points to launch.
The only negative is that Blade consumes significant amounts of his health to deal damage, so you will require a strong, well-built healer to maintain him. In my opinion, if you do not have Bailu or Luocha, you should consider skipping Blade for a future banner. Personally, I would. His healing requirements are really that much.
Is Blade a valuable addition to your account?
Once again, this depends on the current state of your account. If you're in need of a strong carry and have the heals to back up his negative, then Blade is highly valuable. However, if you already have someone like Seele, Yanqing, or even Clara, then it's probably better to save your valuable currency for a more useful character.

Is Blade F2P Friendly?
Blade's kit and damage are already solid at E0. However, Blade's Eidolons add a significant amount of sustainability and damage to his kit. Most of those boosts come from his E4 and E6, which are largely unobtainable by F2P players.
Additionally, because Blade scales off the HP stat, he is pretty easy to build. Getting the HP stat on gear tends to be more common than ATK (Attack). However, he will still need Crit and Crit Damage to do his job.
Overall, I would say that Blade is below average on the F2P-friendly checklist. He gains so much from his Eidolons that despite his favorable scaling, I don't feel great recommending F2P players pull him. Even so, if you really like Blade and still want a decent carry, he does succeed in being just that.
Is Blade a must-have character?
I don't think Blade is a must-have character by any metric. He fills a niche role that can prove to be useful in certain specific situations, is highly versatile, and fits on most team comps. However, he is ultimately a DPS character, and in Gacha games, DPS characters are always the first to be power-creeped. If you like him, feel free to pull him, but know that there will probably be better characters in the not-so-distant future of Honkai: Star Rail.
