How to get Shield Weaver Armor in Horizon Zero Dawn

Time to face tank a Thunderjaw without breaking a sweat!

The coveted Shield Weaver Armor in Horizon Zero Dawn gives Aloy the ability to absorb 500 HP in damage on Normal Difficulty. This value is lower on harder difficulties, but it is still a very cool looking armor to get that allows Aloy to be as aggressive as possible in combat. So how do you get the Shield Weaver Armor in Horizon Zero Dawn?

Unlocking The Quest

In the middle of the Embrace on the Eastern side of the map, players can find an area called the Bunker. This area can be accessed early enough in the game and will be the longest quest to complete for players that find it near the beginning of the game. For the quest to unlock, players will have to enter the Bunker. This is found South West of Devil's Thirst and can be spotted by a landmark of several metal pylons all stacked near each other. Once inside, players can spot the armor but will need to find five power cells to access it.

At the beginning of the game, when Aloy was a young child, she explored a high-tech underground facility to escape the hole she fell down into. Going back to this area as an adult uncovers some collectibles, secrets, and more importantly, a power cell. Going through the bunker doors, players will come across a group of stalactites that adult Aloy can now break with her spear. Opening up this passage lets Aloy into the room the power cell is held in.

The Proving questline will make players familiar with this area of the game as it is where Aloy wakes up from after the invasion. Players only have to not follow Teersa and instead go straight to see a locked bunker door. A crawlspace nearby leads Aloy into the room where the power cell is. If this is missed, players only have to retrace their steps back to this area to find it. Using a Fast Travel Pack is the fastest way to get back, and there is a campfire very close by that players can select to quickly make their way back from.

Third Power Cell - Maker's End

The Maker's End questline will take Aloy to the ruins of Maker's End. Once there, players can spot the Faro Skyscraper, where the third power cell is located. It might take some time to climb, but once players reach the high area outside, there is some scaffolding that leads to some grips in the wall towards the tip of the skyscraper that players can begin climbing. Simply climb to the top to reach the third power cell.

The Grave-Hoard main quest leads Aloy to the location of the fourth power cell, located inside the Grave-Hoard. After solving the puzzle inside, players will unlock the way forward and some doors to the left of the corridor. Following the corridor leads toward the main quest, and once reaching the supply crate near some stalagmites and stalactites, the power cell is right beside it.

The puzzle solution has Aloy traveling between floors to turn various Holo Locks to match the solutions found hidden on the walls when using the Focus. The solutions are:

  • Starting Level: From left to right the solution is up, down, left, right.
  • First Bottom Level: From left to right the solution is up, right, left, down.
  • Second Bottom Level: From left to right the solution is up, up, down, down.

During the events of the quest, The Mountain That Fell, Aloy is tasked with going to GAIA Prime. After watching the hologram of Faro talking with some scientists, there is the option to travel back on a zipline to continue the main quest. Instead, players need only go to the ledge to the left of the zipline and make their way towards the cliff further to the left. It's hard to see, but a prompt will appear to drop down the ledge and into the following set of rooms. The power cell is towards the right of the purple lit room.

The Power Cell Door Puzzle

To solve the puzzle that opens the bunker doors, players will have to match the times written in military time to the Holo Locks as if they were clocks. The puzzle on the right displays the times 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100, and 0000. To match these times, the solution from right to left is top, right, bottom, left, and top again.

The puzzle on the left displays the numbers 90, 270, 360, 450, and 630. These codes relate to the angle that each Holo Lock must be in to solve the puzzle. From left to right, the solution is right, left, top, right, and left. Once the door is unlocked, and the quest is completed, players will receive the Shiled-Weaver Treasure Box in their inventory. Upon opening this, players can equip the Shield-Weaver Armor and begin tearing through the game without a care in the world.

Shield-Weaver Armor Stats

The armor itself cannot be equipped with mods, however, it absorbs damage up to 500 HP on Normal Difficulty. On Hard, Very Hard, and Ultra Hard Difficulty, this value is decreased to 300, 167, and 125, respectively. While wearing the armor, Aloy can't be staggered by ranged attacks, making her able to snipe without ducking for cover or melee anyone who dares aim a bow at her. When the armor's shield is depleted, it will begin to flash red and will not become blue until it is fully recharged again. When it is fully charged, it will beep to indicate it is full.

On higher difficulties, the recharge rate is the same speed, making it so it will be full more often due to the lower maximum HP. Using the armor might be useful in the game, however, using mods that increase damage might be more useful towards the endgame.
