Inscryption is a dark and atmospheric horror game in which the player engages in card games. They can collect cards and build their decks to survive and win. Along the way, players can find methods to upgrade their cards and collect items that will greatly improve their chances of survival.
One method of upgrading their cards is to seek out campfires. These encounters provide warmth to the player's cards and can upgrade them. Players simply need to select the card they want to upgrade and place it on the fire. What bonus the fire gives is shown in-game below the campfire.
The survivors around the campfire are described as being starving and making attempts to eat your cards. Most of the time, the player character is quick enough to pull their card away from them, they may on occasion eat your card, removing it from your deck. The dialogue they provide adds to the dark ambiance of Inscryption. Should the players get tired of these starving strangers, they can place a Ringworm card on the fire that will make them sick. They will then disappear for all future campfires.
Campfires are one of the primary ways to upgrade your cards besides sacrificing. The upgrades given by the fire's warmth are typically an increase in health or damage. This is a good way to make your weaker cards better or to further increase an already powerful card.
