In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, our little pink puffball friend is granted all sorts of tricks. Those familiar with Kirby will know that he is a master at changing his shape and form to mimic things. This game in particular allows him to utilize two types of transfiguration, Mouthful Modes and Copy Abilities. The difference between these two skill types stands that Mouthful Modes allow Kirby to transform into inanimate objects while Copy Abilities take the form of living creatures.
Players will be able to take advantage of twelve distinct Basic Copy Abilities. These skills allow players to fight enemies using different tactics based on the player's preferences and playstyle. The only exception to this is the Sleep Copy Ability, which is solely a support skill that can be used to regain HP. All of these Copy Abilities can be upgraded to superior forms once players find its Blueprint and head to the Weapon Shop in Waddle Dee Town.
How do Copy Abilities work?
Copy Abilities are all pretty different in the way that they function, but activating and changing them is fairly simple. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Locate an enemy capable of having its abilities mimicked. Keep in mind that not all enemies are able to be copied. Most enemies compatible with this feature wield various items, such as hammers or swords.
- Move Kirby so that he is facing and near to an enemy. Press the B Button to inhale them. All subsequent uses of the B Button will utilize the enemy's Copied Ability.
- To remove a Copy Ability, simply hold down the Y Button and Kirby will return to his basic form. Players are given a couple seconds to inhale this Ability, which appears as an orb, before it disappears.
- After unlocking the Weapon Shop in Waddle Dee Town, the player has the ability to change Copy Abilities to suit their playstyle or the needs of a specific stage. The Weapon Shop can be accessed after completing the final stage in Natural Plains called The Brawl at the Mall.
- Kirby can enter a Mouthful Mode form while already using a Copy Ability. If players are already using a Mouthful Mode and would like to set or change their Copy Ability, they will need to exit the Mouthful Mode before doing so.

All Basic Copy Abilities:
Drill Copy Ability
With the Drill Copy Ability, players can avoid enemy attacks by drilling underground. Once hidden below the dirt, players can drill back up to deal damage to unsuspecting enemies. If Kirby drills in a circle and then springs from the ground, he can do a larger area of effect attack. This Ability can also be used to get to previously unreachable areas.
Ranger Copy Ability
This gun-wielding Copy Ability gives players the chance to blast their enemies away by pressing down the B Button. Alternatively, players can choose to hold down this button for a more powerful shot.
Fire Copy Ability
For those looking for a more in-your-face playstyle, this Copy Ability turns Kirby into a smoldering fireball that can dash towards enemies to do damage. With this Ability, players can also blow a plume of fire from Kirby's mouth that incinerates obstacles in the player's way and deals damage to enemies.
Ice Copy Ability
With this Copy Ability, Kirby encases enemies in blocks of ice that can be chucked like bombs. The player can utilize this to move across muddy or magma-filled areas.
Cutter Copy Ability
Using this Copy Ability, Kirby can slash his enemies with his razor sharp boomerang. It can deal damage twice, once on the throw and another on the return. By holding the B Button, Kirby's blade will stay in place and slice objects while it's there. He can also use this weapon to retrieve distant items.
Crash Copy Ability
This booming Copy Ability gives Kirby the power to blast his foes away, with all enemies in the radius around him taking damage. Though, players should keep in mind that this is a single-use Ability.

Sleep Copy Ability
The Sleep Copy Ability allows players to take a short rest when HP is low, but players should be mindful that it is a single-use non-offensive Ability.
Sword Copy Ability
With his blade at the ready, Kirby can slash his enemies with a variety of attacks. Simply press the B Button to do a basic melee attack, hold it down for a charged slash attack, or lunge at enemies with a jump attack.
Tornado Copy Ability
In this form, Kirby can gather nearby objects and enemies alike and hurl them outwards to deal damage. This Copy Ability also allows players to hover over gaps and impassible objects.
Needle Copy Ability
The Needle Copy Ability allows Kirby to roll around stages and stick enemies to his prickly spikes. After collecting his foes, they can be launched away to deal damage.
Hammer Copy Ability
Kirby's Hammer Copy Ability is fairly straight-foward. Players will be able to pummel their enemies with a deadly blow. This can either be a quick attack by pressing the B Button or holding it down to do a charged attack.
Bomb Copy Ability
The Bomb Copy Ability is slightly more complex than the others. When standing still, players can press the B Button to roll a bomb a short distance in front of them. It will only explode upon hitting an enemy or running out of time. If Kirby is running, the bomb will roll much further. If players hold the B Button, they will be able to shoot an arced attack.
