Lost Lands 8 Walkthrough, Part 2 - Sand Captivity

This guide picks up Susan’s story just after she has cracked the puzzle on the greenhouse door in the Academy of Magicians and is about to go inside. It continues until you receive the underwater potion recipe. If you’re looking for an earlier or later part of the story, I suggest you check out my Lost Lands 8 walkthrough hub page, which has links to guides for the entire game, including the bonus chapter.

Entering the greenhouse

Enter the greenhouse and pick up the Morphing Object (a1) and Collectible (a2). Click the flower (a3) and speak to it, then look at the plant causing the problems (a4) and pick up the Small Leaf in the close-up.

Head out to the courtyard and take the Gloves hanging by the noticeboard (b1), along with the Paper and Pencil. Use the gloves to remove the plant (a4), and then find the other 15 infected branches as a hidden object game (you can’t go wrong as you simply need to click around the screen until you have them all. There’s no trick to it). Take the Infected Branch.

Move to Maaron’s office, click the table at the back (c1), and place the branch on the microscope in the close-up. In order (from left to right) click the fourth, third, and then first lens to identify the pest.

Now go to the library and head to the Department of Biology section (find the tree symbol at d1, right at the back). Look at the scroll on the lectern there to see you need section 4, garden pests, and then click on that shelf number to read about the crack-winged aphid. Take the Pest Book.

Deal with aphids

You have to return to the plains to collect all of the ingredients required. Go to Maaron’s Yard and keep clicking the tree stump, the flowers, and the rock (all in the e1 close-up) to find the Big Leaf and all 10 Mystical Mushrooms. Add the mushrooms to the pest book in your inventory.

Go back into the greenhouse and select the box (a5). Pick up the Manuscript, and then click the box to move it and add the two leaves to the lid. Click it again to start a chip-moving puzzle. This one can be tough, so if you’re stuck on it, use the image below to solve it with the following sequence:

  • 2, 5, 4, 1, 2
  • 5, 6, 9, 3, 6
  • 5, 8, 7, 1, 2
  • 5, 8, 9, 6, 5
  • 8, 9, 5, 2, 3, 6
  • 5, 8, 9, 3, 2, 5

Once done, click the instruction sheet in the box to find out the belladonna seeds are in section 2, so take the Belladdon Seeds

Go to the stronghold of the five worlds and take the Alcohol from the table in the tent (f1). You can now add both the belladonna seeds and the alcohol to the pest book too.

Move to Maaron’s hut and select the plant on the windowsill (g1). It’s too hot to pick up, so return to the stronghold and pick up some Tongs from the box on the scaffolding (f2).

Now, you can use the tongs on the plant on the windowsill in Maaron’s hut to get the Volcanic Flower Petals. Add them to the pest book to receive the Insecticide Ingredients.

This allows you to go to Maaron’s office and use the table (c1) to make the recipe. Add the recipe to the table, then follow the instructions (everything you need is on the table now). Once done, you’ll get the Insecticide. Go to the greenhouse, select the box close-up (a5), add the insecticide to the Sprayer, and then pick it up. Use it anywhere on the screen to save the plants and then take the Portal Fruit

Making the portal rune

Go to the river, select the golem (h1), and use the pickaxe to get a Trollstone. Now select the standing stones (h2) for a close-up and use the paper and pencil to make a Rune Drawing. Return to the stronghold and use the trollstone on the sharpener (f3). Use the rune drawing on the stone in the same close-up afterward.

Go back to the greenhouse, select the tree root (i1) for a close-up, and move the grass to get the Pommel. Also, look at the grate (i2) to see that you’ll need a crowbar to move it.

Now go inside to the hall, select the winding machine (j1), and pick up the Crowbar. Go to the greenhouse and use it to open the grate, taking a second Pommel from inside. Return to the courtyard and add the blue pommel to the statue on the right (b2) and the red one to the statue on the left (b3). Take the Bear from the secret cache that opens up, along with the Achaeologist’s Set.

You can now return to Maaron’s hut and add any remaining animals to the trapdoor (g2). If you don’t have them all, refer to the Part 1 guide you’ll find linked above for all the earlier locations. Take the Emblem.

Back at the stronghold, use the archaeologist’s set on the skull (f4) to dig up a Dragon Tooth. Use the dragon tooth at the sharpener (f3), then add the portal fruit to complete and then collect the Rune. Move to the river and, after a cut scene, add the portal stone (at h2).

Following Kiana

Click the boat (h3) to move it into the water, then click the sand where the boat was. Click the bottle to open it, read the note inside, and take the Key. Look inside the boat and use the key to open the compartment. Take the Battle Ax. Select the tree (h4), and use the ax to chop the roots. Afterward, something will fall from the tree, revealing a hole (h5). Take the Boat and Oars from inside.

Select the chest (h4) for a close-up and add the boat to start a movement puzzle. To complete it you need to drag the pieces (they move as one) to place all four ships in their respective positions at once. If you’re stuck, there’s a solution below.

  • 3xW, N, W, N, E, 2xN, 2xS, 6xE
  • 2xN, E, N, 3xS, 3xN, S, 2xW
  • 5xS, 3xE, 3xN, 2xS, N, 4xW, S
  • 2xE, 2xS, 2xN, S, W, N, E
  • N, 2xS, N, 2xW, N, E, 2xS
  • E, N, E, 2xN, 5xS, 3xN

Take the Sail from the chest, and use the knife to cut the rope (h6). Add the sail to the mast of the boat, put the oars inside it, attach the sterling ropes inside the boat, and away you go.

Opening the gate

The Morphing Object (k1) and Collectible (k2) are both above the gate. Select the pond (k3) for a close-up and select the chest to begin a tile-flipping puzzle. If you’re struggling with this, from a reset, follow the image below, clicking the tiles in number order.

Once complete, you’ll gain a shell. The other 14 shells can be found simply by clicking around in the pond. Just note that some appear from behind rocks, and one is inside a flower. Once you have them all, you’ll get a Scallop Shell.

Add the scale to the idol (k4), then use the rope to drag the roots of the island (k5) across to make a bridge. You can also add the scallop shell to the gate (k6) before moving across to the island (k7).

You’ll find the Morphing Object in the tree (l1) and the Collectible on the rocks (l2). Select the tree where it is covering the sun (l3) and use the ax to get a Branch. Return to the gate and note the pattern you can now see through the circle in the idol (k4). Select the stone pile (k8) and use the branch on it to get a Clam Shell and a Bird Figurine. Add the shell to the gate (k6), then return to the island.

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Clear the grass to find a backpack (l4) and use the bird figurine to open it and get the Snail Shell. Return to the gate (k6), add the final shell, and trigger a light puzzle. You need to move the lines so that they match the pattern you saw through the idol (see completed puzzle above). Once done, the gate will open. Head on through.

The ruined city

Talk to Kiana for a cut scene, then grab the Collectible (m1) and Morphing Object (m2) from above the golden gate. Select the gate (m3) for a close-up to find out you need to find some tiles to progress (you must do this otherwise, you can’t get the tiles). Select the crack above the gong (m4) and use your ax to get the Tile From The Well.

Return to the island, select the mound (l5), and click the tile stuck here to find you can’t dig it out. Return to the stronghold, take the Shovel (f5), then return here and dig to get a second Tile From The Well, as well as an Amulet. You’ll also wake the mound, which is a huge turtle!

Return to the temple to find you need to tame the turtle to progress. Use your knife on the large water lily here (m5) to get some Stamens. Return to the turtle (l5), give it the stamens, and it will take you to the city ruins.

The Morphing Object (n1) is by the steps and the Collectible (n2) is to the right of the magic well. Click the magic well (n3) to find a Snake Skull, the entrance (n4) to find a Tiara, and then return to the floating island. Add the tiara to the tree statue (l6) and take its Staff

Back in the ruined city, use the staff to open the doors (n5) and take the Beater, Wolf Skull, and a Manuscript from the pedestal. Use the beater on the gong (m6) and four statues will rise from the lake.

Entering the temple

Take the Bells from the left statue (o1) and the Book from the right statue (o2). Also, click one of the statues again to find you need to know their correct positions. Return to the ruins, add the book to the pedestal (n5), and take the Set of Figures. Now click the entrance below (n4) and complete the item-matching puzzle to clear the rubble. Once done, you’ll have the image you need to set the statues.

Return to the floating island and add the bells to the tree (l7). This opens the shell (l8), allowing you to take the Eagle Skull. Go back to the temple entrance and click each statue so that their arms match those in the ruined city image.

Once done, click on the spot where the light shines, use your knife on the grass there, and start a missing objects puzzle. On completion, you’ll get the third Tile From The Well. Return to the temple entrance (o3), add the tiles to the well, and enter the temple.

Grab the Collectible (p1) and the Morphing Object (p2), then click the snakehead (p3) and add the snake skull. Do the same with the wolf skull (p4) and eagle skull (p5), and then look at the broken section (p6) to see that you could get there with a ladder.

Return to the island and use the knife to collect the Rope Bridge (l9). Now go to the academy entrance and, after a brief cut scene, add the set of figurines to the fountain (b4). Once in the correct places (see below), click the floating globe above the fountain and find all the missing objects. Note that ant currently on screen will have their name in white, which makes things easier. Take the Horse Skull.

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Use the knife on the bridge in your inventory to make a Ladder. Return to the temple and use the ladder to access the horse statue (p6) and add the skull. Once the forcefield is removed, click the central stone (p7) for a close-up, examine it, and take Part of the Crystal.

Head to the ruins to find a boat has arrived. Click the boat for a cut scene, and receive the Underwater Potion recipe. After looking at the recipe, return to the gate and grab some Murmuri Berries from the bush (k5).
