If you’re looking for a new action MMORPG to fill the void until Diablo 4 comes long in June, look no further than Mad World: Age of Darkness. The game has a uniquely dark post-apocalyptic art style for the genre that is reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon, with a stunning hand-drawn 2D look but classic MMO-style gameplay and combat. Everything we know about Mad World: Age of Darkness

The game is being released by Jandisoft after a series of long delays. Originally slated for 2018, pre-registration is now available alongside a number of early-access Founders Packs (see below). The game will be action heavy and includes dungeons and PvP, but there will also be strong and deep storylines, crafting of food and items, alongside evolving pets, as you strive to stay alive in a dark, gritty world.

What is the release date for Mad World Age of Darkness?

The official release date for Mad World: Age of Darkness is Thursday, April 27, 2023. The game will be free to play. However, players picking up one of the Founders Packs can get early access alongside a long list of goodies:

• $9.99 Bronze and $29.99 Silver: Early Play Pass (Monday, April 24, 2023)
• $49.99 Gold and $99.99 Platinum: Early Play Pass (Saturday, April 22, 2023)

These times and dates are official, but also subject to change. As well as early access, these Founders Packs will also net you:

• Bronze: 250 MCASH, 250 Crystal, Limited Edition Title
• Silver: 750 MCASH, 750 Crystal, Limited Edition Title, 5 Abyssal Phantom Spheres, World Trees Blessing (14 days), Adventure and Life Aid packages

What platforms will Mad World Age of Darkness be on?

Mad World: Age of Darkness is initially available via Steam. However, as the game is based on HTML5 technology it should be transferable to any platform that includes a web browser. Jandisoft has announced that it plans to support the game on other platforms later, including mobile, but the initial release will only be via PC.

According to the Mad World Age of Darkness official trailer, players can expect astounding stories, brutal battles, and amazing graphics as players battle the armies of hell. Expect plenty of blood and guts in a game that definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. You can choose between three types of controls setup (mouse-heavy, keyboard-heavy, or FPS-style). Skills improve as you use them and are tied to the weapons you use, which can be switched during combat.

It also has the kind of deep character customization you’ve come to expect in games such as Path of Exile, alongside a similarly steep learning curve. And the game can be unforgiving, with many story arcs that give you genuine moral choices to make. On the flip side, you’ll also be able to level up and care for your pet which can eventually become a mount.
