Marvel Snap Master Mold card, explained

Destroy the mutants and the Marvel Snap ladder.

Marvel Snap released an official reveal video for its Days of Future Past Season Pass, and with it came a look at one of the game's most exciting upcoming cards, Master Mold. This card is exciting to many players because of the potential implications that come with it, as well as the fact it is very likely to revive one of the game's weaker archetypes. With all of this teasing out of the way, let's talk about Master Mold's stats and effect to gauge exactly how powerful it will be.

What is Master Mold in Marvel Snap?

Master Mold's Cost, Power, and effect

First off, in order to properly assess Master Mold, it is imperative to know the card's stats. Master Mold is going to be a two Cost two Power card, which by itself is pretty underwhelming. This is below rate for a two Cost card, but the card more than makes up for this drawback with its On Reveal effect of adding two Sentinels to your opponent's hand.

Master Mold and Ronan

While Master Mold's stats and effect may seem quite underwhelming at first, it can have some seriously powerful effects on the game's outcome. The most exciting synergy the card has is with Ronan, The Accuser, a five Cost three Power card that gains two extra Power for each card in your opponent's hand.

For pretty much all of Marvel Snap's life cycle, Ronan has unfortunately been an underwhelming card and overall strategy due to your opponent being able to easily play around it. Whereas Devil Dinosaur cannot be manipulated by your opponent without tech cards like Shang-chi or Enchantress, Ronan can be shut down by your opponent simply playing a bunch of cards.

Master Mold might actually be strong enough to make Ronan viable, however, due to its effect. Since playing a Sentinel adds another Sentinel to your hand, giving Sentinels to your opponent will almost guarantee your Ronan will be very strong at the end of the game. Combine Master Mold with all of the cards that already pushed this strategy, such as Maximus and Baron Mordo, and the archetype should become much stronger overall.

On a final note, Master Mold also really hurts certain strategies. In particular, adding two Sentinels to the opponent's hand can potentially hurt Discard decks if added at the right time, and can especially shut down Dracula. Master Mold will also hurt Moon Girl combo decks, as those decks are heavily optimized around hand space. Also, if your opponent is playing a greedy deck and passes a couple of turns early, Master Mold can fill their hand and potentially deny them one draw or more.

Potential Master Mold decks

While Master Mold will most certainly be exclusive to Ronan strategies, there are a couple of possible directions to take this strategy. The first would be the more classic Ronan deck, which plays hand hate cards on curve and uses Moon Girl to clone Ronan, Mystique, Maximus, and its other cards:

  • Iceman
  • Korg
  • Quinjet
  • Master Mold
  • Armor
  • Baron Mordo
  • Mystique
  • Cosmo
  • Maximus
  • Shang-Chi
  • Moon Girl
  • Ronan

However, another interesting direction the strategy could be taken in is a Beast Bounce strategy. Because your cards that put more cards in the opponent's hand are fairly low cost overall, using Beast to replay them to force more card draw is very strong. This is especially true for Master Mold, since one bounce brings the total Sentries in hand up to four, guaranteeing a massive Ronan:

  • Iceman
  • Korg
  • Quinjet
  • Angela
  • Beast
  • Master Mold
  • Armor
  • Baron Mordo
  • Mystique
  • Maximus
  • Moon Girl
  • Ronan

Now, there's no real telling how strong a card will be before it is released, but at the very least Master Mold will 100% make Ronan a more viable strategy, regardless of what the best strategy becomes.
