This announcement has come under substantial fan scrutiny, as it breaks a promise the Crystal Dynamics team made back around the game's launch, stating that they would only have cosmetic microtransactions.

While solid free expansions like Black Panther: War for Wakanda and constant gameplay tweaks—Marvel's Avengers seemed to be rectifying some of the game's mistakes—the game has continued to stumble. Some fans on the game's subreddit have chronicled all the decisions made in the game that have negatively impacted the player base and the game's longevity by extension. With so many instances of broken promises, it seems the paid boosters have pushed the game's community over the edge.

Marvel's Avengers has had a tumultuous journey since its launch on August 14, 2020, being criticized by fans and critics alike for lack of content, a monotonous gameplay loop, and a poorly designed loot system.
