How big is Metroid Dread?

Know your file size.

One of Nintendo's most significant releases in 2021 is Metroid Dread, the long-awaited return of classic Metroid games. The fifth mainline Metroid game comes 19 years after the last entry, Metroid Fusion, launched on the GameBoy Advance, and fans are eager to get their hands on it. It's essential to know how much space to have free on their Nintendo Switch beforehand as well.

Surprisingly, the game is far smaller than users anticipated. Metroid Dread takes up exactly 4.1 GB of storage when purchased digitally on the Nintendo Switch. Those who buy the physical version of Metroid Dread will need even less space, as physical media significantly reduces file size on Nintendo's portable console.

It's important to note that there may be updates and DLC in the future the inflate the file size over time, so it's a good idea to keep some space free or grab a micro SD card to increase the Nintendo Switch's maximum storage.

Metroid Dread releases on October 8, 2021, for Nintendo Switch at $59.99.
