The furnace is one of the earliest and most important things I made in Minecraft since it allowed me to smelt ore into ingots, which I used to craft tools and armor or cook food that helped me survive more easily. So, let's look at this tutorial on how to make a furnace in Minecraft!
How to craft a furnace in Minecraft
To create a furnace in Minecraft, you will need to gather some wood, make a crafting table, create a pickaxe, and then mine some stone to craft it! I'll walk you through it step-by-step below.
1. Gather a wood log
Since you're likely just starting, you'll need to gather a wood log, which you can do by punching a tree! If this method is too slow, you can create an axe to accelerate the process.
2. Craft wood planks
Now that we have a wood log, we must make wood planks. Open up your inventory and place the log into the Crafting area. We get four planks of wood for each log we put in there, which is precisely what we need. Grab those newly crafted planks and place them into your inventory or toolbar.
3. Create a crafting table
Keep that inventory open because you'll now want to place the four wood planks in each of the blank spots of the crafting area to make the crafting table. Grab the crafting table and place it into your toolbar (bottom bar in this menu). Afterward, close your inventory, select the crafting table, and put it on the ground.
4. Create sticks
You can do that now if you didn't turn all your wood logs into planks. We will need three sticks, so place two planks into your crafting table, one placed vertically on the other, as seen in the screenshot above. Finally, grab the sticks and put them in your inventory.
5. Create a wooden pickaxe
Place three wood planks horizontally at the top of your crafting table window, and then place two sticks vertically below, as seen in the screenshot above. If you do it right, you'll see a wooden pickaxe in the completed box to the right of the crafting boxes! Grab the pickaxe and place it in your inventory.
6. Find stone
Stone is found in caves in various formations, but you can avoid spelunking by digging down into dirt and sand. However, if you decide to descend, do not dig straight down, or you might fall into a hole or lava! Once you find some stone, mine it with your new pickaxe and obtain eight cobblestones!
7. Craft the furnace
Return to your crafting table and place your eight cobblestones in a ring while leaving the center empty, as seen in the screenshot above. Once the furnace shows up, place it in your inventory, exit the crafting table, and put the stove anywhere you want!
8. Use Furnace fuel
You can use all sorts of things for fuel by placing them in the bottom of the furnace inventory. The most common items to use are coal, charcoal, or wood logs. You'll find coal commonly while you're mining, which is worth picking up for fuel or creating torches. Wood logs or planks will work for you if you have yet to mine much!
How to use a furnace in Minecraft
You can use the furnace to cook food or smelt materials to create weapons and armor. Smelting iron or gold ores produces iron and gold ingots, which are required for crafting shields, swords, helmets, and chest plates, to name a few.
To smelt materials or cook food in a furnace, you must place the material in the top furnace block and the fuel in the bottom. After some time, the stove will yield an item in the right block, which you can pick up and place in your inventory.
