The September 28 Minecraft Live brings with it the semi-leaked new biome, an eerie hostile mob, and the arrival of Hardcore Mode to Minecraft Bedrock.
Minecraft's new Pale Garden biome
It's been just over a year since Cherry Groves were added to Minecraft, making the new Pale Garden biome a welcome upcoming addition to the game. Unlike the bright Cherry Grove, the Pale Garden is a desaturated and eerie biome. The blocks created for it are almost completely devoid of color with a palette ranging from white to dark gray. The new Hanging Moss blocks obscure your ability to see beyond the trees, adding to the creepiness of the forest. All of these traits make the Pale Garden visually feel like something straight out of Silent Hill. I'm sure the biome and its blocks will be used for various Minecraft horror-themed adventure maps when released.
Even if you're not into spooks and frights, the Pale Garden will be a welcome update. This is because of the new blocks it will introduce. In particular, many players (myself included) are excited about the new Pale Oak wood set. While the bark on the Pale Oak trees is dark, the actual wood is white. The color of this wood set makes it a great fit for all kinds of builds. Use Pale Oak blocks with darker woods for a nice contrast, pair it with other Pale Oak blocks for a spooky vibe, or combine it with cherry wood for a cutesy look. The possibilities are exciting and endless.
While the Pale Oak blocks are the most exciting, the new Hanging Moss and gray moss carpet blocks will be just as fun. Hanging Moss drapes down from the Pale Garden's trees and is transparent but thick. Like glow berries, it can hang from any block if there is space. While the new moss carpet blocks weren't explicitly named, they have a fun feature of their own. Placing them down near a wall has them create particles going up the wall as if they were spreading. It's a unique effect that will add an interesting touch to greenhouses, spooky builds, and anything else you add the carpet to.
The Creaking mob
A new scary biome wouldn't be complete without the mob that makes it so frightening. The Pale Garden is home to the Creaking, a nearly indestructible mob that only attacks when you're not looking at it. Its release was flooded with comparisons of the Creaking to Weeping Angels from Doctor Who. If you're unfamiliar with the franchise, you can think of it as a Coil Head from Lethal Company. Keeping your eyes on the monster will prevent it from attacking you. However, you'll be left vulnerable to other monsters in the forest, including other Creakings. To make matters worse, you cannot kill the Creaking directly. Instead, you'll have to find its heart hidden in the trees and destroy it. This sounds like a simple task since hitting the Creaking will send a trail of particles leading you straight to its heart. However, you'll find the task difficult when you've got to switch between watching the Creaking, following the particles, and mining the heart while avoiding the rest of the mobs in the forest.
Minecraft's Bundles of Bravery Update - Hardcore Bedrock and Bundles
The announcement of Bundles and Bravery was one of the most exciting parts of Minecraft Live. This update will bring the much-beloved Hardcore difficulty mode to console, mobile, and Minecraft for Windows players. Hardcore Mode will work exactly as it does for Java players. The world will be set to Hard difficulty and all players will spawn with only one life to live. Whether you choose to bide your time gathering resources to survive or throw caution to the wind to live this single life to the fullest, every Hardcore world will be an enjoyable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
If you're like me, you spend the beginnings of every Minecraft world stuffing your pockets with everything you can find. I tend to wander around until I find the perfect place for my base so I grab everything in sight in case I cannot find it later. Unfortunately, this means I quickly run out of inventory space and have to choose what items to keep and which to leave behind. Bundles are Minecraft's solution to these early-game inventory problems. A single bundle can hold up to 64 of any number of items. For example, in the image above a variety of flowers are dropped into the bundle to free up over a row of inventory space. Since they only require one leather and one string to craft, they're the perfect early-game substitute for Shulker boxes.
No release date has been confirmed for the Bundles of Bravery update. However, since the Minecraft Livestream said these drops would be released in the next few months, they should be out before 2025.
