Mobs have been a core element to Minecraft since the game was first released, and over the years they have undergone substantial changes with each new version. Minecraft 1.18 is no exception, as it has brought several modifications to mobs since Minecraft 1.17 was released in the middle of 2021.

Mob Changes
Unfortunately, there are no new mobs to enjoy in the new version, and most of the modifications made are minor or barely noticeable.
- General Changes
- Hostile mobs only spawn at Block Light Level 0.
- AI for Axolotls, Goats, Hoglins, Zoglins, Piglins, Piglin Brutes, and Villagers has been optimized.
- All feedable mobs named Dinnerbone look at the player correctly.
- Axolotls
- New texture for Wild Axolotls.
- Only spawn in water above Clay Blocks and Lush Caves.
- Have their own mob cap.
- Drowned
- Can now spawn in aquifers in Dripstone Caves.
- Cod, Salmon, Pufferfish, Tropical Fish, Squid, Dolphins
- Only spawn in water between Y 50 and Y 64.
- Glow Squids
- Only spawn in water blocks under Y 30.

- Goats
- Only spawn in Snowy Slopes, Jagged Peaks, and Frozen Peaks biomes.
- Horses, Mules, Donkeys
- Follow players holding Golden Carrots, Golden Apples, or Enchanted Golden Apples.
- Llamas
- Follow players holding Hay Bales.
- Parrots
- Texture for the bottom of the wings has been flipped.
- Pillagers
- Do not attack Baby Villagers.
- Evokers and Vindicators no longer have hoods in their textures.
- Illusioner's texture has been fixed to remove missing pixels.
- Tropical Fish
- Spawn in Lush Caves at any height.
- Witches
- No longer has a hood in the texture.
- Withers
- Wither Skull texture now uses the new Wither face.
- Zombie Villagers
- Armorer Zombie Villager and Weaponsmith Zombie Villager textures have been changed to remove remaining Villager pixels.
