In Nightingale, plant boxes offer easy access to food and plants you'd otherwise have to find in the wild. Here's how you can unlock the Plant Box and start growing crops in Nightingale.
How to farm in Nightingale
To grow crops, you'll first need to purchase the schematic for the Plant Box. The Plant Box is a structure that, when built at your estate, allows you to plant and grow seeds. The only trader who sells the schematic is the Forest Antiquarian Essence Trader; you'll need to head to the Forest Antiquarian Realm and buy it from him for five T1 Essence. While you're there, be sure to purchase the crafting recipe for the Simple Watering Can as well, which costs 10 T1 Essence.
To use your Plant Box, you'll also need to acquire Seeds. All plants in Nightingale have Seeds that can be crafted at the Simple Mortar Station. Each Seed costs five of a given plant to craft; if you don't have enough plants on hand, you can craft Crude Seeds using Plant Fibre instead.

Plant your Seeds by interacting with the Plant Box and depositing them from your inventory. At this point, text will appear over the Plant Box indicating that it needs water. Head to your workbench and craft the Simple Watering Can for one Stone Block, one Wood Bundle, and two Straps. Then, equip the watering can, head to any body of water in your Abeyance Realm, and right-click to fill it. Take the watering can back to the Plant Box and left-click to water your Seeds.
Depending on what kind of Seeds you planted, your crops can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few in-game days to grow. I planted Sunflowers and Cape Aloe, both of which were fully grown within five minutes. Harvesting crops is as simple as walking up to the Plant Box and pressing E; each plant will drop between zero and six Seeds per harvest.
