Once you start to get some weapon modules in Outcast - A New Beginning, you can create the soldier to want to play. So depending on the way you want to play, what are the best weapon module gun combinations in Outcast?
Outcast A New Beginning - Best gun combinations
One of the nice things about Outcast - A New Beginning is that you can swap weapon modules in and out at will. And, once you have both the gun and the rifle, all the weapon modules can be used in either one (but not both). You’ll get many modules as the game progresses. There are more than 30 in total, including some you need to make with Module Parts, but these are my favorite combos.
Long-range novice (rifle)
Once you’ve got the rifle you can tackle enemies at some serious range. If aiming isn’t your thing (it certainly isn’t mine!) and you’d rather run and gun while avoiding fire, this combination has worked well for me. You’ll take things down slowly due to low damage, but you can get the job done at range and with low ammo use, despite the low DPS.
- Smart Bullet: While you do get some damage reduction, homing projectiles still go into my win column in terms of value. As long as you shoot ball-park they’re going to land and once you’ve upgraded the module to level 3 you’re looking at just +1 Helidium used per shot and only a 25 percent damage reduction.
- Sticky Mines: While these up the Heat output of your weapon, the bonus damage more than makes up for it in most situations (and it comes to just +1 Heat at Level 3). The shot plants a mine where it lands which goes off a couple of seconds later, damaging nearby targets. This is perfect for enemies that cluster, or those pinned down.
- Machine Gun: Few things are more annoying than overheating just as you’re about to take an enemy down. Machine Gun negates this, allowing you to keep firing while overheating, at the cost of extra Heidium. It does mean you have to keep an eye on the heat gauge and not overuse it, as it will use a lot of ammo if you’re not careful. But it's worth it to get those nearly kills over the line.
- Helidium Saver: With a couple of greedy modules attached, this puts you back on an even keel energy-wise. At level 3 it reduces Helidium use by 4, making it difficult to run out of ammo! This can be super useful in situations such as base battles where you don’t want to retreat for ammo in case reinforcements arrive.

Close-range stopper (gun)
If you’re using the build above you should be able to rely on your rifle most of the time. However, if you do get into close range and don’t love the prospect of a shield fight, try this gun combination out.
- Headshot Booster: As you’re likely to deploy your gun at close rather than long-range, you should be close enough to guarantee plenty of headshots. If you max it out at level 3, the Headshot Booster will give you four times your normal damage when you hit a weak point for only +1 Heat.
- Concussive Shot: As long as you can live with a 20 percent fire rate reduction, Concussive Shot gives you a nice DPS boost alongside the chance to stun droids. The percentage chance isn’t listed, but if you can get those melle droids off your case long enough to back up and take them down, it’s worth it!
- Healing Salve: As the name suggests, the Healing Salve weapon module gives you some health back each time you defeat an enemy with the weapon. There are no downsides except using a slot up, but I find that’s worth it as I only tend to go to the pistol when needs must.
Surefire sniper (rifle)
If you’re more adept with your shooter skills, there’s a lot of damage-dealing to be had with the right combination of rifle modules.
- Charged Shot: This module replaces auto-fire with a single shot you can power up by holding the trigger, perfect for the marksmen amongst you. Recoil and Heledium use are increased but the results on a hit make it worthwhile.
- Overclocked Core: Heat up, recoil up, Helidium used up a lot, but so is your DPS. As long as you’re landing those shots, you won’t miss the ammo as it practically doubles your damage output per shot, even at level 1.
- Stabilizer: The Stabilizer Module makes up for most of the recoil losses from the previous two modules and will even gain you an advantage once you upgrade the modules. Without it, you’ll need to be an amazing shot to make the combo above work for you.
- Helidium Saver: As with the Stabilizer, adding the Helidium Saver keeps your killing machine from running out of ammo too quickly to be effective.
