Overwatch 2 error -1002 can occur when the game fails to detect an input device, such as a microphone. This issue mainly occurs on the player's side, where settings or hardware issues may interrupt the voice connection with the game. In order to fix this issue, you need to:

  • Restart your game and PC
    • Sometimes turning it off and back on really does the job for you.
  • Update your PC and game
    • By using Windows Update and your PC manufacturer's website, you can update any outdated audio drivers which may be causing this issue.
  • Check your Windows sound settings
    • Hit the Start menu key and search for sound settings. Here, you should see your microphone input devices show up, and if there are multiple options, make sure to select the correct one from the start menu. For calibration, select the setting up a microphone option at the bottom.
  • Check your in-game sound settings
  • Check your internet
    • Since Overwatch is an online game and voice is transmitted over the same network, a poor network connection can lead to issues with voice chat.
  • Try a different microphone
    • If all else fails, this may just be a hardware issue that cannot be resolved with any software solutions. So, I recommend that you try using a different headset or microphone.

If none of these solutions worked for you, then this problem may not be on your end at all. Overwatch 2 has a lot of downtime, whether intentional or not. During this time, updates are pushed out, and services tend to malfunction. So, this can break, such as voice chat in-game. I recommend checking out the Overwatch 2 Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) pages to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issues as you.
