Overwatch 2 Cassidy Magnetic Grenade Rework, Explained

Are we getting Flash Bang back?

Overwatch 2 players are finding changes everywhere, from a reworked Mercy to an incredibly buffed Wrecking Ball and everything in between. One character that hasn't been touched up in a while, though, is Cassidy. Plenty of us have been wanting a change to his Magnetic Grenade, possibly changing it back to Flash Bang, and the developers finally responded.

Cassidy's Magnetic Grenade changes coming in Overwatch 2

The developers for Overwatch 2 recently held an AMA (ask me anything) session on the Competitive Overwatch Reddit page, where plenty of players got to ask questions about the game and their experiences. One player asked about Cassidy, Magnetic Grenade, to which Alec Dawson (Lead Hero Designer at Blizzard) said that changes might be coming soon.

"Magnetic Grenade is rather flat in what it does," said Dawson, "and while some abilities can be in this space, Cassidy's kit already has a lot of simplicity, making Magnetic Grenade a prime candidate for adjustments."

That being said, though, it does not look like the Flashbang from the first Overwatch will be making a comeback. Dawson already stated that they don't want Cassidy fully stunning enemies, stating "we won't be in full stun mode like Flash Bang."

This announcement was a bitter pill to swallow for some fans who really wanted Flash Bang to return. Part of Cassidy's utility is being able to catch opposing heroes who try to flank. This was much easier to do with Flash Bang, though, which could stop a Genji or Reaper in its tracks.

As to what they could do with Magnetic Grenade, a slow effect could be on the table. This would slow down characters like Genji or Sombra but still allow them to move. Dawson says that they want to "bring back some lost synergy in Cassidy's kit," so fans will have to wait to see what that entails.
