How to get a flashlight in Pacific Drive

Let there be light!

Your car may have headlights to help you see in dark or foggy environments, but as soon as you step foot outside of the vehicle, you'll quickly find yourself engulfed in darkness. Thankfully, there are some flashlights you can craft to help!

Pacific Drive - How to make and use a flashlight

The environment around Pacific Drive can get very dark sometimes, especially when looking behind locked doors and abandoned buildings. I got lost inside some trailers several times when I was searching for items and immediately wanted a way to brighten things up. You can do so with a flashlight.

Now, you will have to get creative at first, using Flares and then a Relightable Flare, before eventually being able to make an actual Flashlight. Here's how to get them!

How to get crafting plans for a Flashlight in Pacific Drive

To unlock the option to craft some flashlight devices, you will need access to the Fabricator at the garage. This will be available to you after you complete your first official Drive and are prompted by Oppy to unlock the side door.

Within the Fabricator, browse for the light plans under the Lights category, symbolized by a headlight icon. Two items will work as flashlights for you: the Relightable Flare and the Crude Flashlight. To print out the plans, you must meet some Pre-requisites (other research unlocked on the Fabricator or quest points), materials, and most importantly, Energy (as shown on the right side of the Fabricator screen). Here's what you'll need for both:

Relightable FlareCraft Mat

Crude FlashlightBasic Workbench
Research Bulb

After printing the plans out on the Fabricator, you can read the blueprints, and the crafting recipes will become available on your Workbench. Before you can begin using them, you will have to make them. This will require a few more essential materials you can collect while on your Drives. Here's what you'll need:

FlashlightRecipe
Relightable FlareScrap Metal x2
9v Battery x1
Copper Wire x1
Road Flare x2
Crude FlashlightScrap Metal x4
9v Battery x2
Electronics x1
Bulb x2

The flashlights, just like all the other tools, only last so long, although the updated Crude Flashlight will last longer than the Flare. Once their durability runs out, they will break, and you will have to craft another one at your Workbench.

How to use a Flashlight in Pacific Drive

You are definitely going to need a flashlight to loot inside the buildings during your Drives, especially when night falls. Equip your newly crafted flashlight from your Inventory or, more efficiently, through one of your Quickslots, and it will be in your hand. Turn it on by toggling your action button (M1 on PC or R2 on PlayStation).

As long as it is in your hand, it will give off light in front of you. However, if you switch to another tool, the light will turn off again. You will have to keep switching back to it as needed. You can also set it down on a surface while you're using another tool to continue giving off light, even if it isn't in your hand. The white line under the name of the item is the durability bar. Once this runs out, the tool will break, and you'll need to craft another one.

Definitely consider unlocking these flashlight plans as soon as possible. It will be essential to loot all the spots on your Drive, even if things get a little dark. Flares only do the trick for a very short time, and it's better to have a longer lasting solution.
