Persona 5 Tactica – Quest 5 Operation BOOM guide

Booming marvelous.

While all battles in Persona 5 Tactica are cool, the designers kept the biggest challenges for quests. Unlike missions, quests tend to rely on you working out the puzzle the quest sets. That’s certainly the case with Quest 5, Operation BOOM, hence this walkthrough guide.

Persona 5 Tactica is a squad-based tactical battle game set in the popular Persona universe. Put together a team of three heroes, then fight your way through each battle and quest to push the story forward while claiming new Personas to equip and fuse.

How to defeat all enemies in 3 turns - Persona 5 Tactica Operation BOOM walkthrough

In Operation BOOM, you need to take Morgana, Erina, and one other character. To complete the quest, you need to defeat all enemies within three turns. There are no adds on later turns, so what you see at the start of Turn 1 is what you get.

I chose Yusuke as my third team member, as he is my favorite character and has great gun skill and movement, allowing you the maximum targeting options. I don’t think your skills are that important for this quest, but having an AOE skill on Erina will help. I used Shining Partisan, but it isn’t a requirement.

The key here is to do massive damage in Turn 1, as you'll have a couple of targets that aren't in cover you can take advantage of. One well-placed Triple Threat should mean you only need to mop up the stragglers in Turn 2. Don’t fear all those bombs, as most can simply be ignored, while a few will help you succeed.

Turn One - Triple Threat mayhem

Moves 1 and 2 - Yusuke

Run Yusuke around the side of the tower. Thanks to his speed and range, you'll be able to target the unprotected Guard right at the back. Gun the Guard to knock him down and get 1 More Action.

Move Yusuke to the position above. This allows him to target the group by the tower with a Gun attack while also being in a good position for Triple Threat later. Shoot the barrel, which causes havoc with the three enemies here. Good work, Yasuke!

Moves 3 and 4 - Mona

Thanks to the explosion, Mona now has a target out of cover (above). Using the Garu Persona will push them into the center while giving you 1 More Move and increased movement range.

Move Mona past the tower to target the other Guard on the far side that has no cover. I just used Gun here, as the important thing is to get another 1 More Action.

Move 5 - Mona and Erina

Move Mona and Erina into the positions above and then Triple Threat. Boom. You'll hopefully be down to six enemies now.

Move 6 - Erina

You're going to have to leave Erina a little exposed here, but it will be worth it. Target the guard and barrel pictured with a Gun attack, moving the Guard into a better position to deal with during the next turn.

Turn Two - Triple Threat two, game over

Move 7 - Erina

If you've followed along with my Turn 1 plan, Erina will now be in the position you see above. This means you can hit all three Guards with any small area attack you have available and also get a 1 More Action in the process. You'll want to make sure you down the unprotected Guard, not kill them, to enable Triple Threat. Even if you can't target all the enemies, just be sure to down that one guard.

All you need to do now is move the team members into the positions you see above, taking out all of the remaining enemies in one Triple Threat hit. If you haven’t done this more damage, you should still have hammered these Guards enough to pick off any stragglers with Mona and Yusuke.

Turn 3 - Dealing with any stragglers

The worst-case scenario should be that one or two Guards have survived into Turn 3, probably because the weapons and Personas you have equipped aren’t as powerful as the ones I used when I completed this quest.

The core premise of the plan (the two Triple Threat attacks in turns one and two) should be sound even with lower damage. You can hit and down the same unprotected targets, so you should just need to take a few more actions to finish them off. If you’re struggling, I suggest the following:

  • Upgrade your weapons: I’ll always spend Yen on weapons before Personas, as ranged attacks that cost no SP are so valuable in most missions. And that extra damage could make the difference here. Remember, you can redo missions to earn the extra Yen you may need, as well as sell old weapons.
  • Switch Personas: While Personas aren’t a big deal in this quest, switching to one that covers a larger area or that pushes a target to a better position could make the difference. Also, consider switching up Personas, which can also significantly boost your gun and melee damage.

Finally, if it just isn’t happening, don’t worry too much. Quests are optional and you can still come back to them if you move on to the next part of the game.
