How to use the Spirit Box in Phasmophobia

To use the Spirit Box in Phasmophobia, you will need to right-click with your mouse and be inside a room where there is a ghost or one you suspect. You will also need to turn off all of the lights (flashlights/glowsticks/UVs don't count) and then proceed to ask three types of questions.

Along with this, you can also throw the spirit box on the ground and have it still work as long as it is left on and you are using proximity chat at least three meters near it. After this, you will then need to speak a select few phrases to get a response from the ghost. If you don't get a response, you may need to be the only person in the room.

However, keep in mind that it may take a few tries as Phasmophobia's voice recognition can be a little buggy at times. Sometimes you may also get a nothing-detected popup; this means the game heard your voice, but the ghost is either too far from you or refused to talk back. If this should happen to you, simply proceed to a new area of the building or house you are in and try again.

That said, below are all of the questions that you can ask ghosts in Phasmophobia.

All Spirit Box Questions

The following are all questions the player can use to determine where the ghost is inside a specific room, its age, and more; If you are near a ghost, it will give you an answer indicating where it is or how old it is, and even it's current mood.

  • What is your location?
  • Anybody here?
  • Is there a spirit here?
  • Is there a Ghost here?
  • Speak to us.
  • Are you here?
  • Are you with us?
  • Anybody with us?
  • Is anyone here?
  • Anybody in the room?
  • Where are you?
  • Are you close?
  • Can you show yourself?
  • Give us a sign.
  • Let us know you are here.
  • Show yourself.
  • Can you talk?
  • Are you a child?
  • Are you old?
  • Are you young?
  • When were you born?
  • Are you a child?
  • How old are you?
  • How young are you?
  • What is your age?
  • What do you want?
  • Why are you here?
  • Do you want to hurt us?
  • Are you angry?
  • Do you want us here?
  • Shall we leave?
  • Should we leave?
  • Do you want us to leave?
  • What should we do?
  • Can we help?
  • Is anything wrong?
  • Are you friendly?

Depending on the question asked, the ghost may provide a simple one-line answer. This will either indicate how old the ghost is or how far it is from you. Along with this, it may also throw items following a simple "catch" phrase.

However, the ghost may also not respond at all, and if this happens wait a few seconds and then try again.
