Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Tera Type mechanic brings a fresh challenge to its battle and raid systems. You'll have to think quickly when deciding what type of Pokémon to challenge another, as a Pokémon's Tera Type may be entirely different from the type that Pokémon would be in the wild. If you are joining a Raid Battle from the Poké Portal you will only have the symbol in the top right corner to notify you of a Pokémon's Tera Type. This symbol will not change colors depending on the various type it represents.
Remember that a Pokémon's wild type will not necessarily be the same as it's Tera Type. The screenshot above shows a party preparing to challenge a Sunkern, normally a Grass-Type Pokémon. However, as indicated in the top right corner of the screen, its Tera Type will be the Ice-Type. This means that this Pokémon will have Ice-Type weaknesses, so Fire, Rock, Steel, and Fighting-Type moves will be super effective. Tera Type Pokémon will still only be able to use moves in their traditional move-set, so this Sunkern would likely attack with Grass-Type moves.
