Best counters for Typhlosion Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

And the starters keep on coming.

From April 13th to April 16th, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet players will have the opportunity to take down yet another starter as a Tera Raid boss. This time it's Typhlosion, who, while hailing from the Johto region, will be Tera Ghost-type as a nod to its Hisuian form. Being a Tera Ghost-type means there aren't too many typings that counter it, but there are still plenty of Pokémon that can make this Raid battle much easier.

Since Typhlosion will be a Tera Ghost-type, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet trainers will pretty much want to ignore anything that isn't Dark-type to use in this battle. While it's important to resist Typhlosion's powerful Fire-type attacks, the typical Fire-type counters (Water, Rock, Ground) won't hit Ghost for super effective damage.

Of course, if a Pokémon can resist both Ghost and Fire, then they're even better to bring to this battle. Hydreigon is probably the best example of this since Typhlosion has nothing in its kit that can hit Hydreigon. Trainers can easily boost up with Nasty Plot or just equip Choice Specs and spam Dark Pulse.

Another Pokémon with a great matchup against Tera Ghost Typhlosion is Ting-Lu. This is mostly because of its ability, Vessel of Ruin, which lowers all opposing Special Attacks. In a Raid battle, literally, every teammate would benefit from this. Ting-Lu also gets a decent amount of Dark-type attacks, including Dark Pule, Throat Chop, and Payback.

Other potential good picks are as follows:

  • Chi-Yu
  • Mabostiff
  • Umbreon
  • Grimmsnarl

There is one more Pokémon who does have a good matchup here despite not being Dark-type: Hisuian Zoroark. This recently added Pokémon is Normal and Ghost, so it will be immune to Typhlosion's Ghost-type attacks and be able to fire back with strong Shadow Balls of its own.
