Best nature for Articuno in The Indigo Disk Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Bird Trio is back!

There are plenty of legendaries that have returned to Pokémon through the Indigo Disk DLC Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the Bird Trio from Kanto among them. Articuno has gotten a lot better in the past couple of generations (especially thanks to the Heavy Duty Boots item) and gets even better with its best nature.

What are the best natures for Articuno in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

As a legendary, Articuno has some beefy stats. Surprisingly, it has a really nice Special Defense stat, giving it a defensive niche. It can also spam hard hitting special moves as well, though.

  • Calm (+ Sp Def, - Atk)
  • Modest (+Sp Atk, - Atk)

Most of the time, you will want to use Articuno as a sponge for special damage, which is why the Calm nature is recommended. Articuno has 100 base Special Defense, so it's a great switch into Pokémon like Flutter Mane, Alolan Ninetails, and Gengar.

Modest nature would be the better option for a wall breaking Articuno. This isn't a role that Articuno typically uses, but it does have 125 base Special Attack. Therefore, you could just give it a Choice Specs and spam Ice Beam to break many team compositions.

How to choose the best nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Choosing a good nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet comes down to one question: which role is this Pokémon fulfilling? In the case of Articuno, it's usually spreading Toxic and using U-Turn to get out of there. Therefore, the Calm nature gives it the best shot at surviving big Special Attacks thrown its way.
