How to get Cloyster in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

To evolve Shellder into Cloyster in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must find a Water Stone. Shellder does not evolve by simply leveling up, only by using a Water Stone. These can be bought at the Delibird Presents stores after you have defeated three gyms. You can also find them by wandering Paldea's beaches and picking up the gold glimmers. These have a small chance of being Water Stones.

Once you have a Water Stone, place Shellder in your party and press X to open the Main Menu. Select Bag and then go to the tab represented by the candy icon—this is the Other Items tab. Scroll down, find the Water Stone, and then press A to select it. Choose Use this Item and then select Shellder. This will evolve it into Cloyster.

Cloyster typically does not learn moves through leveling up, but you can remember moves at any time to relearn old moves. This means you do not need to wait to evolve Shellder until it has learned a good move set.
