How to farm Tera Shards in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Try out the new mechanic.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, like any Pokémon Generation, has a unique gimmick to power up your favorite Pokémon. Generation IX's new mechanic is the ability to Terastallize. This effect allows you to increase the damage of certain types of moves and potentially change the type of your Pokémon entirely. Any Pokémon can have or change into any Tera Type, so long as you have the Tera Shards needed. Here's how to farm Tera Shards in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How to get Tera Shards quickly in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

While you can obtain Tera Shards in the wild, this is rare. By far, the quickest and easiest way to get Tera Shards is through Tera Raid Battles. You can initiate these battles yourself by interacting with Tera Raid Dens in the wild. They look like a pile of glittering crystal pillars. Tera Raid Battles are meant to be cooperative between four players, but you can challenge them yourself if you want to. If you have online capability through Nintendo Switch Online, you can join Tera Raid Battles initiated by other players via the Poké Portal menu.

Tera Shards can only be gained as a reward for defeating Raid Battles at three star levels and higher. The higher the difficulty of a Raid that you challenge, the more chances you'll have at obtaining multiple Tera Shards as a reward. Remember, the type of Tera Shard you'll obtain corresponds to the Tera Type of the Pokémon you are facing. The typical wild type of Pokémon you are facing does not factor in. To change a current Pokémon's Tera Type, you'll need to gather 50 Shards of the Tera Type that you'd like to change a Pokémon too.
