The generation one icon Mew is coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Instead of catching this legendary Pokemon, you'll have to get it through the Mystery Gift feature.
How to Claim Mew in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Mew Mystery Code
You can get your Mew by loading into the game, going to your Menu, selecting Poke Portal, and then choosing Mystery Gift. Select "Get with Code/Password" and enter GETY0URMEW. If done correctly, Mew will appear in your box.
It'll start at a lowly level five, so you'll have a lot of grinding ahead of you to catch Mew up to your main team (unless you're starting fresh).
Mewtwo Tera Raid Battle Start Time
The introduction of Mew comes with the announcement Mewtwo will be a 7-star Tera Raid Battle, starting September 1, 12am UTC, and ending September 17, 11:59pm UTC. The Pokemon website teases something special could happen if you enter that battle with Mew, so make sure you get yours leveled up.
What moves does Mew have in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Your Mew will come with three abilities learned automatically: Swift, Light Screen, and Life Dew. The fourth move seems like it'll be random, as mine came with Aura Sphere. The website shows "???" as the fourth move, so your mileage will vary there.
You'll definitely be teaching your Mew some new moves as it levels up, so it's not the end of the world if it ends up with a dud of a fourth move. As of right now, the Mystery Gift is the only way to obtain Mew in Scarlet and Violet. The offer ends September 18, so make sure you get your code entered in beforehand.
