Why aren’t mystery gifts showing up in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet continues to have the Mystery Gift system in which players can redeem codes for goodies. It's fairly simple to use, but we may have some solutions if you are having difficulty. Here's why you might not be able to redeem Mystery Gifts in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Why can't I redeem Mystery Gifts in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

If you can't redeem Mystery Gifts, the first thing to check is whether you also have a Nintendo Switch Online Membership. You will not be able to claim Mystery Gifts without one. If you do have a membership but still can't redeem codes, you might want to check and make sure your game is updated to the most recent version. If you have not updated your game, you will be unable to receive Mystery Gifts or use other online functions in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How to update Pokémon Scarlet & Violet to the most recent version

To check if your game is updated to the most recent version, you'll need to be certain that your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet. Starting from your Nintendo Switch's Home Screen, highlight your game and press +,  then select Software Update followed by Via the Internet. This will prompt your console to check for a version update and update your game if necessary.

How to redeem Mystery Gifts in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

To reedem Mystery Gifts, first open your Main Menu by pressing X in the overworld. While you are in your Main Menu, be sure to press L to connect to the internet if you aren't connected, already. From the Main Menu select Poké Portal, then scroll down to the bottom of the list to select Mystery Gift. Most rewards will be obtained by entering a code, the second option on your Mystery Gift Menu. After entering a code, you should automatically receive the gift that corresponds to the code that you entered.
